Philljam 0 Posted February 20, 2007 system specs: Intel Core 2 Duo 6600 2GB Crucial ddr2 ram Asus P5B Deluxe Wi-Fi mobo XFX Nvidia 7800 GT graphics card OS - Windows XP My UK version of the game has never launched. (bought 17 Feb 07) I get the usual "ArmA has encountered a problem and needs to close..." msg which seems to be quite common. After going thru the forum i have tried the following solutions without success: - setting X-Fi to Game mode - removing Asus Wi-Fi software - updating all chipset and graphics card drivers - uninstalling and reinstalling game - painting dvd black and putting in microwave for 3 minutes on 'defrost' OK, i havent tried the last one yet but i've run out of other ideas
desertfox 2 Posted February 20, 2007 Where did you download the cipset drivers from ? From Asus ?
Philljam 0 Posted February 20, 2007 yes, from the Asus website
desertfox 2 Posted February 21, 2007 Try downloading them from Intel.com please. It's got an Intel P965 chipset.
Philljam 0 Posted February 22, 2007 I looked at the Intel site but the chipset drivers only apply to Intel integrated graphics (which i don't use), the software update utility program (which i have) and Matrix Manager which is related to RAID/storage. I dont use RAID.

Philljam 0 Posted February 22, 2007 thx. I have downloaded these drivers though. I'm still getting the same error msg.
Philljam 0 Posted February 26, 2007 Have just tried re installing on primary partition (was on secondary before). I still get "Arma has encountered a problem....etc My X-Fi is set to Game mode. I think i've tried everything!
desertfox 2 Posted February 26, 2007 Damn. I just had exactly the same problem yesterday after installing a new audio driver for my onboard soundchip. ( AC97 ) Arma would not start anymore, same error message "encountered a problem ..", and I even re-installed the game because I thought I broke something lol Anyway, to make a long story short, I found that the soundchip is from Realtek, and that there's a 2 week old driver on the Realtek site .. downloaded it, installed it, Arma runs again ^.^ Soo .. I have a feeling about something "a la soundcard" regarding your problem. - Could you try disabling the onboard sound in the BIOS ? - If that does not help could you try uninstalling and temporarily removing the PCI sound card, and try using the onboard sound ? inthecutt 0 Posted February 26, 2007 my system specs. i know nice system thanx amd x24600 msi kn9neo platinum bfg7900gs corsair xms2 2gb ddr 800 sounblaster audugy2 zs winxp pro those of you who have an audigy2 zs download the newest driver from them and it should work because that was whats wrong with mine. yes I've also had the same problem AA either disable the on board chip and swap it with a pci based non soundblaster card. remember ofp had a certain problem with soundblaster live and there was a work aound for it. Here a bit of troubleshooting for i did to solve my problem symptom 1 AA launches and crashes to bios screen= severe hardware conflict symptom 2 AA crashes to desktop with error msg symptom 3 AA fails to launch either download a new .exe file from somewhere or copy the .exe from AA program folder what i did and you should too: 1)downloaded a .exe (don't ask me where i got it from because its probably not a good idea or responsible on my behalf. if you know where to look then fine.cheers) 2)check and update soundcard drivers or revert to older driver that came with your card. 3)i know its a longshot but pull the sound card out to see if there a conflict or a bad pci slot 4)ran a memtest 5)check and updated graphics card driver 6)check cpu temp and graphics card temp 7)edit .config file located in your user profile with notepad and change your resolution.(fixed on specific issue with booting game) 8) install on different partition ex (c:/ instead of c:/programs) 9) disable onboard wireless & soundcard from bios. its never a good idea to run integrated components with games period. (all types of conflicts popup everyday) After i did all of these things mine is working flawlessly and now I'm trying to become the best sniper i can be. desertfox 2 Posted February 27, 2007 I think I might have found a pattern .. I have not read from anyone without onboard sound to have an issue with starting Armed Assault. So I did a little bit of digging: Basically all Asus boards and MSI boards ( and many more ) come with nForce chipsets and onboard sound. And all the soundchips come from Realtek. And there's always three different drivers. The ones from the mainboard manufacturer, the ones from the chipset manufacturer and the ones from the chip producer itself. Only exception is Philljam, who has got an Intel chipset with a very weird soundchip from china I can not find a single website in english about. I really see a pattern here .. whenyoubite 0 Posted February 28, 2007 I think I might have found a pattern .. And all the soundchips come from Realtek. I expect to see a fix in 1.05 of ArmA for this then, as iv never experienced a problem with any other game and realtek onboard. Heres hoping
hoz 0 Posted February 28, 2007 Did you try the OPenAL drivers?
Philljam 0 Posted February 28, 2007 Hi Desertfox, hav just read ur latest post about my weird soundchip! That doesnt sound too good! I dont know why it's unusual cos it's a popular mobo (Asus P5B Deluxe Wi-Fi) Ive tried disabling the onboard audio but no joy. Im going to see if i hav latest X-Fi drivers today. Thx for other suggestions. Im reluctant to remove my soundcard because a) it would leave me with my onboard sound chip! b) im not going to remove my X-Fi every time i want to play. Thx for ur all ure efforts so far. I hope i'll hav some luck with the X-Fi drivers Time owned the game - 11 days Copies returned to Game - 1 Time spent playing - 0 minutes
