rekrul 7 Posted December 31, 2001 I was a bit reluctant to upgrade to 1.40 due to the fact that it seems that BIS has a hard time making a upgrade not sending you into a spiral of frustration and reinstallation but the curiosity got the better of me. So I run the 1.40 upgrade from 1.30 and it says ok. I start up OFP and get this errormsg: "Cannot create 3D device: Adapter 0 (NVIDIA GeForce 2 GTS/GeForce 2 Pro) Fullscreen Resolution 1024x768x32, format X8R8G8B8/D24S8, Refresh 75Hz. Error E_OUTOFMEMORY" I remembered reading that if I run a DS server (wich I don't) I had to run Preferences first to create a file so I did, but that didn't help. So I tried a reboot, that didn't help. Tried changing settings in Preferences - no dice. I really wish BIS would give you the opertunity to uninstall the patches like you get when installing W2k SPs. Systemspecs: AMD Athlon 1.4ghz, 512MB RAM, GeForce 2GTS 32MB. -Rekrul
theavonlady 2 Posted December 31, 2001 Well, first let's do some simple things: 1. Run the OFP preferences program and click AUTODETECT. Then try to start OFP. 2. Manually set your Windows virtual swap file size to 1000. Yes, I saw you have 512MB of RAM. Reboot and try OFP again.
rekrul 7 Posted December 31, 2001 nm, fixed it now. I had to increase(!) the texturemem of the card. However I am quite frustrated over the fact that 1.40 clients can't connect to 1.30 servers. Way to not support backward compability! Don't misunderstand, I'm glad you're still bugfixing but as long as there are errors, I will be around to complain about them. -Rekrul
Fishu 0 Posted December 31, 2001 Rekrul, Games usually are made so that it'll be very unlikely to be able to connect in previous version servers if multiplay things have been corrected - and we dont want worthless code around, do we..
rekrul 7 Posted December 31, 2001 Btw, in BIS defence I don't think it was the upgrade's fault I got this errormsg, rather my tweaking as I used 'restore to default' on my cardsettings and only the texturemem was changed (increased) and then it worked. AvonLady: I already tried autodetect and have a bigger swapfile since I'm also playing WWIIOL but thanks for trying. -Rekrul
rekrul 7 Posted December 31, 2001 Ok, it's very late for me but I belive it's common to connect to a server with a lower version but not higher. But yes, I like bugfixes and new features. -Rekrul
