dugite57 0 Posted January 15, 2007 Demo crash Hi, before I buy ArmA I thought I'd try the demo. Trouble is, straight after the "receiving data" stage I get a CTD with the following message; OUT OF MEMORY (requested - 1523311 kb) reserved 393216 kb total free 358022 kb free blocks 3, max free size 358017 kb (after trying all sorts of stuff the game still crashes, but the above numbers will change, weird) I've got no idea what that's trying to tell me - tried all my usual tricks, dumbed down graphics, mover pagefill to a drive with more space, ran "end it all", killed AVG but nothing works. Maybe I've found another excuse to build a new pc. The system manages to run CoH (although I had to lower cpu and memory timings to the following for that to work) I've asked the same on other ArmA forums, but have yet to come up with a fix. System; Athlon XP 1800 mobile at 2.4ghz 1 gig ram Nvidia 7600GT SB Xfi soundcard Anybody know what I can do to fix this? Thanks
Maddmatt 1 Posted January 15, 2007 Faulty RAM maybe, if you have more than one RAM stick, try using one at a time to see if one is faulty. Also, you sure you have enough free RAM? According to those numbers you have 358022KB free, which is 350MB. The game is requesting more than that. Close unneeded programs to free up memory.
kungfoofairy_ 0 Posted January 15, 2007 You may want to check to make sure your pagefile isn't disabled or set to a static value less than 2GB.
suma 8 Posted January 15, 2007 Hi, before I buy ArmA I thought I'd try the demo. Trouble is, straight after the "receiving data" stage I get a CTD with the following message;OUT OF MEMORY (requested - 1523311 kb) reserved 393216 kb total free 358022 kb free blocks 3, max free size 358017 kb This is very strange. The part "requested - 1523311 kb" means the game tries to allocate 1.45 GB in one allocation, which is not possible and it is something which should not be ever done during normal game operation. My guess is some input data are corrupted, either those coming from network during the MP session, or some data on the hard disc. If this happened many times with different servers and different missions, some file corruption is more likely. I suggest uninstalling the demo and installing it again. If that does not help, you may want to re-download it and perhaps also run disc check to check for faulty sectors.
dugite57 0 Posted January 19, 2007 All fixed - This time I downloaded the demo direct to the drive on which I install the game. I suspect there's something going wrong when I download the demo to another drive, then extract it and install. It may be the mobo, or my other drive slightly corrupting stuff. Anyway, I'd given up trying (5 downloads and 3gazillion installs latter) but your suggestions got me thinking and I decided to try doing it all on the one drive, and it worked. I got into a game and shot a few dudes and it all seemed fine. I'll do the patch next. Thanks, and I liked what I've seen (but then again I'm an OFP fan).
