Zett 0 Posted December 7, 2006 Hello, I got the problem that ArmA freeze some minutes after starting (in Menu, Editor or ingame). Then the last "picture" is "freezed" on the screen (sometimes the sound "freezes" too => sounds like a defect CD). There is also a topic in the german forum concerning this bug. I am very perplexed, because first it run very well! This bug came like a bolt from the blue! I changed no driver before or installed/deinstalled any Software or Hardware. German ArmA Update is already installed. What I did up to now: - updated all drivers - checked Hardware (no heat problems) - new installation of ArmA My System: Operating System: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 Language: German (Regional Setting: German) System Manufacturer: System manufacturer Processor: AMD Athlon™ 64 Processor 3500+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.2GHz Memory: 2048MB RAM DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) DX Setup Parameters: Not found DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.2180 32bit Unicode Display Devices Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Series GPU Manufacturer: NVIDIA Chip type: GeForce 6800 GT Display Memory: 256.0 MB Current Mode: 1152 x 864 (32 bit) (100Hz) Monitor: Iiyama MA201D, VisionMaster Pro 511 Monitor Max Res: 1920,1440 Driver Name: nv4_disp.dll Driver Version: 6.14.0010.9147 (English) DDI Version: 9 (or higher) Driver Attributes: Final Retail Sound Devices Description: NVIDIA® nForce™ Audio Driver Name: nvapu.sys Driver Version: 6.14.0465.0000 (English) Does anyone know what is wrong? troop 0 Posted December 8, 2006 ArmA seems to get in conflict with certain system files of Windows as well as gfx- and sounddrivers. Unlike you and many else saying they got crash/freezes after like 5-10min, I only have sporadic failure of the game. I am sorry, but dont know any real solution for this. - In addition to your conflict above...(filesystem related) --- Version 1.01.5094 Fault address: 7C91EB94 01:0000DB94 C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntdll.dll --- ...I also have vid- and soundcard driver files mentioned in the arma.rpt file: --- Version 1.01.5094 Fault address: 72C9461F 01:0000361F C:\WINDOWS\system32\wdmaud.drv (Sound related) --- or: --- Exception code: C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION at 72C9461F graphics: D3D9, Device: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT, Driver:nv4_disp.dll 6.14.10.9381 (GFX related; driver) --- and: --- Version 1.01.5094 Fault address: 77DA761B 01:0000661B C:\WINDOWS\system32\ADVAPI32.dll (Base system API) --- Nevertheless, I'd like to suggest something to test. Try to set PIO only (disable DMA access) mode for your HDDs. If you overclock, set to default for this test! Also, relax your RAM settings to values really failsafe. (8-5-5-2.5) - In addition, set sound and GFX hardware acceleration to the basic minimum (sliders all the way to the left) - Should take you 5-10mins to setup and test, if the game still crashes for you with very (very ) safe settings. - If it still does, there is nothing more to do on user side, I think. > patch. Edit: Sorry, forgot. Make a note of all your settings, before any changes. If nothing of the tips helps, you must reverse the process for everything else running correct again. Zett 0 Posted December 8, 2006 @ Placebo Mea culpa! Didn´t see the pinned thread. Such a mistake will not happen again! Can you tell me if BI is already working on this bug? It´s really frustrating! I am on the verge of my pc! @ troop Thank you for your tip! I will try this weekend.
desertfox 2 Posted December 8, 2006 If the game 'freezes' after a certain period of time, you should try other havy-load 3D games. Do they freeze the PC as well after a while ? I had a similar problem once, and as it turned out it was an overheating problem. In my case the little fan on the front side bus died. PC would work fine until I ran 3D applications. Then it would freeze after a couple of minutes. Additionally, please state your mainboard type and model please.

I have no problems with other 3D games. I got an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe Mainboard. Chipset driver is up to date. Only my Bios hasn´t been updated yet.
