Dedicated Server Drops From Gamespy List

Recommended Posts

Trying to keep our dedicated internet server listed .. at times it is ok and often 15-45 minutes later it drops off the Gamespy list and has to be reset to be seen again.

- Our dedicated server IP does not block pings.

- No hardware or software Firewall.

By chance, do I need to add any of these lines to the config??

reportingIP="armedass.ms12.gamespy.com";

reportingIP="armedass.master.gamespy.com";

reportingIP="armedass.available.gamespy.com";

If not ... what do I have to do to keep it listed permanently?

- Our Running Server Config

- Dedicated Server Version 1.1.0.5094 (German)

TIA!

Ive been using one of the actual reporting IP addresses for the master server, just in case DNS is dropped somewhere on route.

Try this in the config, Ive never had any bother with it.

reportingIP=207.38.11.34;

Cheers

<table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">reportingIP=207.38.11.34; // or reportingIP="armedass.master.gamespy.com";

That didn't work either .... weird.

It is like Gamespy "flushes" itself or something.

Anyone else have an idea of what is going on here ?

Do they want us to reset our server once every few hours just so people can see it in the Gamespy list?

What to do.

Trying

reportingIP="master0.gamespy.com";

Gamespy servers will drop a server if there is no game heartbeat UDP packet, or too many of them?

Well cripes ... where do I adjust that at .. lol

I suspect there maybe something going on with the reporting, a maximum number of servers that can be displayed or something, I'm not sure.

I put up a test server yesterday, it appeared on the list fine using

Code Sample

reportingIP=207.38.11.34; // or reportingIP="armedass.master.gamespy.com";

I Turned it off and revisited it this evening, and it would'nt appear in the list either.

I also tried to see it in a LAN game, but it also would'nt show, even when trying to use the remote IP. Thinking that there maybe an issue with the LAN somewhere, I fired up the OFP server on LAN and it appeared happily in both remote IP, LAN and in the internet browser.

I'm pretty sure that Ive not made a mistake in the config as Ive changed nothing since I ran the server yesterday, consoule creates the host fine etc., so I can only assume that something has failed to work which is outwith my control, maybe with Gamespy?? Still does not explain why the game does'nt appear under LAN or Remote IP....

Anyone else had any issues connecting to a LAN game using the -server switch?

Update 05/12/06 - Server now appears in Gamespy without making any changes, and connects no problem, but it still does not appear in LAN games or using Remote IP function.

Can someone be so kind as to please try running a dedicated server on their LAN to see if it shows or not? I would really appreciate it, and it may help confirm if the problem is unique to my system or maybe an issue that needs to be appropriately highlighted...

TIA

Cheers

I just checked our server and it is still showing in the Gamespy list after 9+ hours.

[=USA=] Hit Squad Dedicated Server [=USA=]

Looks as if the srever has been packed up with players all night as well.

- No errors in the server window cache.

- No crash or irregular looking messages and clients verify no lag or irradical behavior like desynch etc.

Conclusion: The server has been running as expected for 9+ hours.

Here is my theory on why servers drop from the Gamespy list ....

When a server has an issue with someone trying to load a face.jpg or has a file the server doesn't like, or perhaps a texture in a mission doesn't load correctly, clients CTD, or any error message for that matter...

This flips a "switch" in ArmA to stop sending the "Heartbeat" to the Gamespy master server - "armedass.master.gamespy.com".

Reason: Gamepsy thinks that your server is having issues, or has had a serious error and does not want to send any more clients to a "broken" server.

Does this make sense to anyone that knows more about Gamespy? Placebo? Anyone? Devs? Patch? Fix? Workaround? Help?

Does ip connect work while server isn't showing?

What are you doing to get it back showing? Restarting the server or waiting a specific time frame?

Yes .. Remote / Direct Ip works after it stops showing in the Gamespy list in both LAN and Internet.

Immediately resetting the server console fixes it.

This issue appears to be just our server then???

I imagined that this would happen to quite a few more people, guess I was wrong or people aren't bothering with this issue.

Just reset the server every hour and walla - no more problem.
