East Cotentin BETA released

Well, here it is then, the public beta of

East Cotentin Peninsula V0.1 BETA

This is an early beta of my OFP map intended for public testing especially concerning lag issues in single and multiplayer games. At the moment the map includes only the town/village of Audouville-la-Hubert (not based on the real place), but I intend to expand the map into a miniature sized area of the Eastern Cotentin Peninsula in Normandy, France. The final map should cover the area from Utah beach to St. Mere Eglise and from Exit 2 to Exit 4. I'm not planning to make it fully historically accurate, but the major details should be there.

The village in this map is pretty much complete. Some minor changes might happen but they shouldn't alter any positions of buildings or anything that big. Still I don't recommend making any missions with this yet. I left many of the buildings rather empty to reduce any extra lag, so it'll be up to the players to furnish them if they wish so.

AI handles the town pretty nicely. They manage to move along the streets and also drive there, but sometimes they seem to perform quite hilarious actions when ordered to move to certain points. The middle part including the bridge seems to cause most confusion but I'm not sure if it's too big an issue.

NOTE: You should use a low visibility value or strong fog to prevent any extra lag. After all, you're not going to need a long view distance in a village like this.

FEATURES

-> a small world war 2 era French village/town

-> an enterable church

-> a ruined castle with several hidden passages

-> a bridge in the middle of the village

-> several enterable buildings, including a hotel, restaurant & shop

-> many hidden alleys, passages, doorways and backyards

-> many excellent sniping positions for multiplayer or whatever

In addition to the archive contents it requires Linker Split's WWII Normandy Patch 2, which you can download here.

I decided to release this a few days earlier than I first intended since the idea was to create a few missions for people to play around with but I'd rather have feedback on this first, so PLEASE people comment on the lag issues and other possible bugs as well. You don't need to report the bugs mentioned in the readme though.

it works, depending on how your browser is configured. i've no problem clicking that link and the download window pops up.

huh, just realised the archive was missing AWOL_Bridge1.pbo which contained the textures for the bridges.

I added that file to the archive, same link works. So if anyone downloaded it prior to this, please download it again (or get that file from somewhere else).

Great job on this map so far. I really like the placement of the buildings and objects, it gives it a very authentic feel.

I just looked around in it for about five minutes and from what I saw it was awesome! I'll play around with it some more tommorow, I'm getting tired.

It looks good, but I cant install the Linker Split Patch to run it, I get this error:

seems to me that your download was corrupted. try downloading and unarchiving it again. if it doesn't help, i don't really know what gives..

also, i think you don't need to use the installer. just drag that archive into winrar and you should be able to extract the files manually.

Found alittle problem in Bar building... i fired two rounds at a bottle on top of the bar and the whole building collapsed, lol.

I know u didn't make the building, but to say the least, i was surprised at the power of the 1893 lebel(IOF).  wink_o.gif

I'm sure Linker Split is aware of that minor bug in his excellent model.

The map is well done and i'm sure it would be a death trap for any enemy who dares try navigating through it's streets. It has many locations for well placed MG nests.

haha biggrin_o.gif he should have used a little stronger material than cardboard.

anyways, i made waypoints for AI units through the whole village from both exits and the only place the seemed to get confused or in other words stuck was the bridge. dunno if there's anything that could be done about it, since the bridge model is old and i haven't seen any other ones that would be the same size or smaller.

Boys, the proble is that my models are configured to be used with scripts... like a nearestbuildingpos script and something like that... biggrin_o.gif don't blame me if they get lotta bugs! tounge2.gif

I'm trying to reduce the lag, and to make the atmosphere be better! anyway, good job MK1! I'm going to release a new pack... stay tuned, more to come! smile_o.gif

ok, great stuff! looking really forward to it, cos then i can also update my map as well. ;D

in the meantime, i'll take a look at the configs to see if something can be done.
