Garand 1 Posted September 1, 2001 Got my dedicated server ready for party this weekend (P3 1GHZ, 128 MB RAM). Not really enough memory, but, it beats hosting on my 1.5 Athlon while I play. I hope to see good performance out the ded. server.
Rax 0 Posted September 2, 2001 Check that everybody has same installation and BOUGHT the game Otherwise if someone has a faulty installtion (cd -crack for example) people get disconnected. It doesn make any difference if you play it on 10Mb or 100Mb. I Know..I tried... it all depends on the host machine how much LAG you get.... LAG and PING times are not the same you know
Rax 0 Posted September 2, 2001 with only 128 RAM you can forget lagfree play hosting
Unl33t 0 Posted September 2, 2001 try 256min, 512optimal for a LAN since LANS tend to transfer much faster (because they can) the host needs a god box for a machine
Tommygun 0 Posted September 3, 2001 LAN gaming with OFP works well with no more than 4-5 clients with the old netcode (european version). If you hook more PC than this the hosting machine gets 10 fps or worst... :-( I hope the dedicated server and the new netcode will solve this: americans pls post your experience with it!! Blake 0 Posted September 3, 2001 Well, im not american but I got the original US v1.20 exe and stuff, it worked fine when pasted on my Euro version. Something about missing new grenade model, but other than that works perfect. I've been hosting dedicated server on my 450 Celeron couple of days now with 256 DSL connection. And what can I say, it works like a charm with 6-8 players, thats when my low bandwith comes to play. No warping when driving vehicles and overally smoother MP. So I'd say a host with 512 DSL and dedicated server (processor speed not so relevant) could probably host 16-20 players, while 1 Mbit guy with fast server could probably try even 30 players. I've yet gotta test this server thing on a faster connection. So the new patch has very much improved netcode and I'll predict there will be a lot of servers by the Euro patch comes out. TheBean 1 Posted September 4, 2001 30 players huh? thats more like it. Ive been reading here for a while and i saw al this crap about 10 to 20 players wich sucks on those big maps. Especialy when youre able to use tanks and helicopters etc etc. If this is really true what you say, i am happy
