Guest Posted May 15, 2006 Hello Wanted to express some profound gratitude towards the many folks that visit here and help people like myself out with scripting and mission editing (I kinda figured this is best placed in general as its not directly beneficial to the mission editing area). Over the past two month, with having come on with very little scripting abilities I have been able to write my own customized mission 'engine' battle script, have reinforcements spawned that fly in to back up forces, create sound and music effects (in some heavily scripted apps), been able to have dialog between player and ai with custom sounds and animations, and a heck of alot more little stuff too, all of this in 2 months lol, and only because people here are willing at times to go out of their way to help people like myself, and also because of the many complex scripting programs that have been made to allow some things to be possible that would have been impossible for people like me with limited code knowledge. And have been trying to give back when I can to participate in this helping out each other kinda thing here, more often than not I dont have a solid enough answer, but when I can I try to help out and give reliable answers to questions. My only problem as of late is getting a lil too consumed with all these assetts and new found knowledge in my mission, darnit lol, I end up seeing all these possibilities and it gets so neat to see things happen that id never imagined possible not that long ago, time sure can fly when your making a mission lol Anyhow, thanks to everyone here who participates in helping out people with their missions, no one is getting paid for this, its really peoples personal time spent helping others, and thats a pretty cool thing. Shashman 0 Posted May 15, 2006 It's always a pleasure being able to help someone at something you're good at. It gives you a feeling of real satisfaction and achievement, (even though we're talking about a computer game here) when the person needing help comes back thanking you for your help and showing you what they have done with your assistance. I've been playing OFP for as long as it's been out, and this is by far the best community I have been a member of. Sure there are some times when you wish you could shoot daggers at certain other members, but hey, the amount of serious, helpful and down-to-earth guys here far outweigh those people. We keep the game alive, we keep the community alive and we have a great team of developers to thank for that. The fact people are still posting messages such as the one you have just posted, 4 years after the game's release, just goes to show what an amazing piece of work OFP really is

Placebo 29 Posted May 15, 2006 Glad you found people helpful here, but such a thread isn't really a topic for conversation
