j w 0 Posted May 2, 2006 Can the CPU get to cold? I read at a forum that a guy had problems with overheating (probably had a crappy fan, badly installed fan, no coolingpaste etc), but then two other ppl said that they had another problem, that their processor is freezing, and it was down under 20 degrees C. Can it be to cold, so it cannot operate? Thanks for answers JW
Mr_Tea 0 Posted May 2, 2006 Not cold, but old. Processors are aging like everything else.

Thanks for answers JW Yes, I think there is a stage where it would be too cold for the CPU to function properly, but that would be very very very low
Tovarish 0 Posted May 3, 2006 Dude....if the CPU is too cold....you aren't overclocking enough :P
EdGrrr 0 Posted May 3, 2006 It is unlikely that it is too cold. The original intel 386 had a minimum operating temperature of -40 C, and it unlikely that the minimum operating temperature for any chip will be above 0 C.
Supah 0 Posted May 3, 2006 At very low temperatures condensation might begin to become a problem.
echo1 0 Posted May 3, 2006 but then two other ppl said that they had another problem, that their processor is freezing, and it was down under 20 degrees C. By any chance, did their post start off with "My computer has been acting up ever since I got that Liquid Nirogen cooling unit......" Seriously though, where did you see it. The only thing I could think of is that the motherboard is completely f----d up!

Actually, this reminds me of a messed up temperature sensor I had to deal with for a college project.
