Llyranor 0 Posted February 6, 2006 Hi, I did a search on VoIP, and apparently OFP supported it? My friend who has the game can't recall this feature. So, which one is correct? Also, has anything been said about AA re: VoIP? Thanks!
gonk 0 Posted February 7, 2006 Yep OPF does/did have an in-built voice comms system within the game, called “Voice on Netâ€. It layout was pretty much revolutionary. Giving you the following options. Group, Side, Vehicle, Direct, Global. The labels are pretty self explanatory except for Direct which gives you the ability to only talk to players who are in your immediate vicinity….very cool idea. The main problems with it were it was not customisable with its Bandwidth use and it did not have VOX (voice operated transmission). So you had to keep pressing a button to make it work. Most people’s fingers were busy with menu's, controlling troops, shooting ppl etc. Its quality on Dial-up was not too flash but it was ok. I never did get to try it on ADSL. I don't know if it is currently functioning on the latest version of OFP (1.96). I read somewhere there was a problem with Sockets or Direct Play... I can not recall which one. Since it was missing a few options as listed above most people stuck with Teamspeak or Roger Wilco. I hope they have tweaked it in AA to have VOX, BW adjustment, Private Channels, Player Blocking. I thought the Direct option was an excellent idea. I don't know if it was directional and attenuated with distance, I hope these are added too. I hope this clears things up. Oh yeah the main key for operation was the CAPS LOCK key. This is customisable as per normal.
-kelet0r 0 Posted February 7, 2006 yeah the old opflash voice chat is still superior in concept to that in most online games today - hopefully Arma will only improve on it
