Muzzle flash question

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I'm making a weapon and I want to use the muzzle flash of the AK47 in OFP for it. Problem is I can't find muzzle flashes anywhere. I suppose other addon makers often use BIS original flashes? If that is the case, how do they load these texture files into Oxygen? I've read lots of tutorials and in brsseb's weapon tutorial you can download a muzzle flash that I suppose has been made by him.

And another thing. Does the BIS weapons use different muzzle flashes for every time you fire, or is it always the same one? I've watched a weapon closely as it was fired and I think it looks like the flash changes a bit between every shot.

I would also like different flashes for my weapon.

Help, plz. Thanks

Hi

The same muzzleflash is used every single time the weapon is fired (unless some addon genius has found a way to have different ones, but to my knowledge no one has).

You should download the original OFP demo here (choose the 1st mirror, I think the 2nd one is dead). You don't need to install it. Just unpack it. Go to the Flashpoint - Data folder, and un-pbo the file Data3D.pbo with PBO Decryptor 1.5 found here.

That has the models (including the weapons) in MLOD format (if you want to know what MLOD means, then you should search the forum for it). If you can't open the .p3d's right away, then you should use this utility to convert them.

Search for a p3d with ''ak47'' in the filename, and you are bound to find something interesting wink_o.gif

Haven't reached the point where I am starting to make new muzzel flashes yet but haven't you ever wondered why the M16 flash is called zasleh_front.01.paa.

What I belive you do is you have just add .0X to the name of the texture now BIS only uses tree different textures and I don't know if that is the limit. You should map the face with the texture with 01 in the end. Ooffcause the different textures are in the same directory.

Thanks guys. The following is a reply I got on the subject at www.OFPEC.com:

Quote[/b] ]you found the flash textures? ok, you may have noticed that they form a kind of a sequence (zasleh_front.01.paa to .03.paa, same for zasleh_side). now all you need is some different textures for the same flash and name the textures xyz.01.paa, xyz.02.paa, etc. you only need to map the muzzle flash with one of those textures; the game engine detects the other ones automatically (given they are in the same folder as the one used to map the muzzle flash ).

model-wise in oË› you have to name the muzzle flash "zasleh" and the rest of the weapon "zbran", that's all the game engine needs to know.

3rd thing you need is a section in the config reading

Code:

class CfgModels

{

class default {};

class weapon: default {};

class name_of_model: weapon {};

};

there's a tuto by brsseb about making guns for ofp, it's worth a look if you don't know it yet www.ofp.info/brsseb

or search the editors' depot, they have it there too

So you see there are 3 different textures. smile_o.gif
