Idiotic CD Detecting Patches

Recommended Posts

I've got the US 1.20 CD was able to patch to 1.30 and then to 1.40, but patch performs illegal Operation then dumps this:

Why do you insist on putting CD detection on your patches, this is completely idiotic.

AFAIK Codemasters insisted that Bis put Safedisc2 protection onto the game smile.gif

actually Codemasters themselves added the 'safedisk' system after BIS sent them the finished game. I read that in OFP's postmortem report.

Safedisc sucks.

I highly doubt that my download wsa corrupt. More likely it's a safedisc problem.

CD copy protection does nothing but make everything a hassle for end users.

You know what's funny. Is I bet that the crackers get to play 1.42 as much as they want, but because I bought it I can't

Still can't install 1.42.

Runs, the CD shows me the logo, then I get the same stupid IPF in my first post.

Any fixes?

Hello Codemasters? If you are such CodeMASTERS why does your crappy choice of cd protection suck so much?

I did look through and try several of the suggestions in your FAQ. But none seemed to resolve my problem.

This is stupid anyways, I shouldn't have to hack my machine to get this update to work.

Anyways, I found a No Cd hack for the patch, I am going to give this a try this evening.

Again, I wonder, why do they bother with this crap.

Lupus... just to let you know... you're not the only one w/ that problem. I e-mailed BIS on Jan. 6th and still haven't heard anything. Congratulations on your new $40 coaster!! sad.gif

This is a REAL problem for people who PURCHASED the game. In all occurences I've read about, it occurred w/ the US Retail version (not to say it doesn't exist on the UK version, I just haven't seen any posts on it).

There are a fair few fixes that can be tried to resolve the problem, I solved it by removing "Daemon's Tools" and the patches installed perfectly, have a rummage through Avon's FAQ, there's plenty of tips in there smile.gif

However if you've tried all the fixes and nothing works then contact Codemaster's Tech support, Email them every day until you have a response smile.gif

placebo... thanks for the response.  I have visited the avon lady and attempted to go through the steps to "fix" the issue.  No luck on all counts.  I have e-mailed BIS support w/ no response.  Maybe I should give Codemasters a try.

If you have the e-mail link address for Codemasters tech support, I would greatly appreciate it.  [Can't access the codemasters site from work sad.gif ]

Also here's their take on the safedisc troubles from their FAQ......

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">4. Problem: Whenever the game is run, the CD briefly starts and then stops. Sometimes the Operation Flashpoint logo is displayed briefly. The game does not load, the PC just goes back to the Windows Desktop.

Solution:

If you are running any Virtual CD device software (or other CD-ROM tools) - such as Daemon Tools or Clone CD- you should uninstall them.

If your PC is mapped to any network CD-ROM drives you should unmap them.

If you have more than one CD-Drive, make sure that the game is installed from and the disk is present in the first logical drive - e.g. If you have a CD-ROM as your F: drive and a DVD-ROM as your G: drive your should install and run the game from your F: (CD-ROM) drive.

If you have a SCSI drive and an IDE drive, make sure the IDE drive is the first logical drive (this can be altered from Windows - Control Panel - System). Now install the game and run it from the IDE drive.

If you have PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) you may also have to uninstall this.

Try unchecking the DMA box found under your CD/DVD-ROM properties - settings, in Device Manager (Control Panel - System).

The ASPI drivers for your CD Drive may be corrupt. Links to sites where you can update your drivers are found here: http://www.goldenhawk.com/ide.htm

Make sure you have the latest firmware updates for your CD/DVD-ROM drive

If you have a Sound Blaster sound card, disable the CD Detector program.

If you have a motherboard with a VIA chipset, make sure you have the latest 4 in 1 drivers for it.

Try changing your CD-ROM/DVD-ROM from a slave device to a master device

Ensure that you have the latest patch from our website - www.codemasters.com.

I don't have any of the installed software you suggested.

I don't have more than 1 CD drive.

I tried disabling DMA, CD ROM, HR, Both, none.

I went through the FAW suggested above.

I have the latest and greatest Via 4 in 1 drivers.

I've been there, I've done that.

Fact of the matter is... My CD just doesn't like safedisc.

Period. It just doesn't work. No game that I own which uses safedisc works.

Safedisc is VERY popular. At least 1/3 to 1/2 of the games I own just don't work.

None of them require CD's for patching, so I get away with using the no cd patches exe's for all of them.

I was lucky enough to find a No CD patch to the 1.42 upgrade yesterday. I applied it, and the patch ran sucessfully.

I've actually never tried running OFP (the game itself) without a no cd patch, so honest I can't tell you if it would run or not.

So Safedisc, does it work? No it doesn't. Any idiot with an internet connection can dig up a no cd patch in no time. Some people HAVE to like me.

I buy all my games. I do not encourage, accept, or imply that anyone should pirate anything.

But, when companies like Codemasters use copy protection that sucks, I have to circumvent it.

As for FADE, it does NOT exist. Or, if it does exist, it doesn't work. Like I said I patched my game with a no cd patch and it works fine. Maybe fade works based on the serial number, because I have a valid legit serial number.

In any case, I suggest that if you have problems patching from 1.40 to 1.42, just use the patch fix, you can find it on the internet.

Later.
