j w 0 Posted September 7, 2005 If you read about the development of a campaign that seems really cool. Then it start coming screenshots and a storyline. You wanna download it as soon at it comes out. But... When it comes out, BANG, you must download a hefty amount of addons. The campaign seems really cool, but where do you draw the line? 10mb, 50mb, 250mb etc etc. Just say the maximum size, even if the campaign seems very very very very (and so on ) nice where is the line? Hope you understand the question, if you don't feel free to tell me what to explain and so I shall
456820 0 Posted September 7, 2005 for me it depends on the speed i get on the servers for the addons but to download something 250MB for a cmapiagn must meen the campaign must be very special aslong as i have a good download speed on the addons and the campaigns got quite alot of special things to it like Voice acting, one hell load of missions and lots of fun then sure why not download 250Mb of addons but for those 56Kers then its a problem sitting there for a few days for the addons but luckily i got broadband
Sgt.Storm 0 Posted September 7, 2005 It really depends on who is making it, playing it, and if the addons are commonly used. See on my projects I am using a lot of addons but also they are very common and are already installed in people's machines like BAS Blackhawks, Fischkopps Hummvees, and Laser's DeRa pack. So in my opinion it is ok with any size if it is interesting, uses common addons, and is pretty good sized if you use a lot of addons.
Sepe 1 Posted September 11, 2005 Its not about the filesize (of course, I don't wanna download 1GB of addons, in the worst case most of them crap, that I'll just use to play that campaign) but the amount of single downloads. I soo hate when I just have to decide not to test a nice mission because the readme gives a huge list of tiny addons. In the worst case, the addon directories are made so that I cannot just open and extract 'em, but I'll have to extract 'em to a temp folder and copy 'em to the addons folder. That's just soo crappy. As for the question, as minimal as possible. Even if the AK47 in FDF mod ain't the best possible in your FDF campaign, that doesn't mean you should make the players download another AK47 addon. "Generic" addons (meaning almost everyone has 'em) like FDF, JAM, SebNam etc. are fine IMO. Well, I never download missions that require Tonal plus a gazillion of other BAS units, but that's just my personal attitude problem.
eestikas88 0 Posted September 11, 2005 i think that most of the players got all the newest addons on their harddrives ,so do i ,so pick yourself
NeMeSiS 11 Posted September 11, 2005 If it is in 1 pack, 1gb is good if i have to copy and paste alot of links, the max is
DBR_ONIX 0 Posted September 11, 2005 Depends on the quality of the campaign.. If it's the best campain ever made, about 23GB? (All the space I have on the HD with OFP on it..) Really, as long as theirs an option to download a single pack, or a list of links to them (Not in a text file, one I can go though, and middle-mouse-click, then click okay on the FlashGet windows). I don't care how big it is. The joys of broadband.. You can download loads of things at once, and the interent doesn't grind to a halt, and you dont need to disconnect every 5minutes for the phone Aslong as their all nessisary, use them. But if your including a 100mb weapon pack, just to use a slightly-shiner M4, I'd have a problem with that, theres far smaller packs with equaly as good weapons in it.. Basicly, aslong as the addons are nessisary (or add a lot of the mission), and their not unnessiarily huge, and the links are easy to click, and most importantly, are on a good server (Filefront, or OFP.info). I don't care how big they are, aslong as it wont take 8 weeks to download at 500b/s.. - Ben
Daniel 0 Posted September 11, 2005 I'm interested in this. I was wondering how much people would be prepared to download for a campaign I'm working on. I'll dig up the list and sizes in a moment.
