OFP_PUPSI 0 Posted August 29, 2005 @manhunter09 The fields in Anjou had a bug, that AI good see through the field. That wasn´t fun, and 2nd it really drop down the FPS rates. Allready the reason for Anjou SE (without the fields). Well in Anjou 3.0 there are no field addons anymore. And I think due to the bug, that´s good so. The bushes gives you still more than enough place to take cover, hidding a well placed AT gun and blow away tanks. So the right place for you and and the AT guns
OFP_PUPSI 0 Posted October 1, 2005 Hi everyone, just want to keep you informed, that Anjou is still in progress. While beta testing it, I was adding some features to it. Nothing big, but things shich might be interessting for mission makers or all which just play the quickly editor selfmade 5 minutes mission. While Beta Testing I hope to eliminate most of the bugs and progress is really good at the moment. There are some works around Anjou to do, which have to be first fnished before release the island too. But then you will get a nice package on your hand. Here are some pics of the new island I made. It might be good for MP games, because the areal is not that big but offers two small villages, a harbour (for fishing boats), a few farms and a lot of beaches ...... And this is is kind of small prison .... maybe good for some "Rescue POW mission" etc.... I am sure with Anjou V3.0 you will get a quite good WWII era island to play ..... harley 3 1185 0 Posted October 1, 2005 Looking very impressive OFP_PUPSI. Looks very authentic. Can't wait for it to come out
OFP_PUPSI 0 Posted October 1, 2005 Thanks Harley, I try to get it most authentic as possible, even OFP engine sets a lot of limits. The most thing I am missing is to set real creeks or rivers and lakes on levels higher than 0 meter. This would give me more possibilities to create a much more better atmosphere on islands and maps. Don´t know, but maybe anyone else had solutions in progress ?
kavoven 4 Posted October 1, 2005 Well, perhaps I have some tips for you: As you already said, things like lakes and rivers are missing. That's why I used so many mountains on Phoenix Island. If you make the whole island too flat, it gets boring in OFP. Further you should use the BI bushes (or even those of Berghoff), because the really add a lot of atmosphere. The old CWC bushes are ugly and the new ones won't cost you much performance. Other things are: http://www.freewebs.com/anjou1944/Anjou_Gef1.jpg No trees grow on blank rock! Place some small rocks around them, and place bushes or gras in between, so that it looks like the vegetation found some cover. Place the really small grass plants under signs and these wooden electricity things. That's all I can say from these sceenshots and I really don't remember much more to improve since the last version kavoven
OFP_PUPSI 0 Posted October 1, 2005 @ ka@voven: Thanks for tips. The vegetation will change with V4.0, but which is in future ... after ARMA will be released. WWIIEC is also working on some very nice vegetation stuff. But I agree completely, the vegetation from Berghoff is really nice too. The other thing with trees growing on blank rocks ... sure you are right, and this is another kind of compromise. I am missing texture of mixed rock and gras. Might be easy to make them, but I am not good in retexturing. So it will be kind of small imagination that there is some small portion of soil for the trees growing in rocky areas. But all in all you are right. Whenever I find some good texture, which solve this, I will add them to Anjou. And I agree totally with you that only flat island are partly boring. That´s the reason why I add a lot of small hills to Anjou (like waves) and also a mountain area. For each area you can make good missions, and as Anjou is generic France I have the freedom to add more type of areas to give player more variety. Btw: Phoenix is also a very nice island and fun to play. Cheers, OFP_PUPSI
belgerot 33 Posted October 3, 2005 The island is coming toghether very nicely, especially from the last screens. Great job! I do have a question however, do you plan on using any WWII object packs in it (like the one from BB)? I remember there was also an addon that had a WWII styled guard tower you could replace the standard BIS ones. Just a suggestion, though it is still looking very nice. Cannot wait to be able to play on it. (this is what I meant)
OFP_PUPSI 0 Posted October 7, 2005 @belgerot: Thanks for the link. I think I didn´t know that addon. You will find BB stuff on the island. I am using a very nice metal air strip made by Battling Bitch, as well as a very cool looking bridge. Also the street lights and the gas stations are from him. He´s a very talented addon maker and I am happy to use his stuff. I am sure there will come more in future. We (WWIIEC team) are stil inmid of beta testing. Ah, you know maybe all the stuff ... floating bush here and there, a tree inmid of a small road. After a while yourself don´t see anymore. So I am happy having my colleagues looking for the bugs. But it is a bit more than 80 km2 of playable ground. That´s quite a lot to check. But we hope to release it soon ... Cheers, OFP_PUPSI
belgerot 33 Posted October 10, 2005 Please take as much time as you need with this map, it is a vast improvement over previous versions and I can only expect you and the team want to reflect your efforts in the best possible way. I am glad to hear you will be using BB's addons, they add the perfect touch for any WWII map. I just hope you still find room to use that guard tower in a few places, it's been out for a while and it is a shame not too many people have used it. As I said before the map does look fantastic, it holds a very nice atmosphere as well. I hope everything is going well with it
CameronMcDonald 146 Posted November 16, 2005 Any news? (It's look for a new island - night for me!
harley 3 1185 0 Posted November 17, 2005 I second the question. I've spent months looking for the "perfect" island. This one's definately on my "have" list when I return to my PC...
OFP_PUPSI 0 Posted November 17, 2005 Hello there, it was a bit quite last time ... but not quite in developing Anjou. Here a little update of waht´s going on: The layout is now ready, WW2Weasel from WWIIEC-Team tested the island extensively and we hope to get rid of the most bugs (it might be not perfect, but I think it will be good quality). Anjou is now somewhat of 115 km˛ big, with a lot of features ... At the moment I am just testing Anjou on a different computer with fresh installed OFP to check if some addons are missing in the addon file for Anjou are missing etc... So, release is now really nearby. To give an idea of the size of Anjou just a screenshot from the editor. It is different of Anjou 2.0 and if you know Anjou 2.0 you will know what I mean. But the old areas I nearly left untouched (for allready made missions etc...) I only worked on the fences, which blocked AI "road finding" stuff .... should be now better. Cheers, OFP_PUPSI
harley 3 1185 0 Posted November 17, 2005 Bah, Freewebs won't let you put up the picture. Damn, that's one big looking island! Any more screenshots to show us, please?
CameronMcDonald 146 Posted November 18, 2005 Heh, heh - seconded! Piccys would be nice. Btw, do you think this island would be realistic for a 2010ish battle? That's what I've got in mind... I know its WWII and stuff, but it looks so damned good!
OFP_PUPSI 0 Posted November 18, 2005 2010ish battle ? Why not ? Well it doesn´t contain those modern BIS buildings or skyscrapers or stuff like that ... it is more or less a countryside area. But you could also still find today such kind of areas in Europe and so you will in 2010.
OFP_PUPSI 0 Posted November 18, 2005 Hello there, so I tested Anjou on a computer with fresh installed OFP to see if in the packages all addons, configuration etc.. are included. I worked perfect. So, that means justs some small action and it should be ready to release.
CameronMcDonald 146 Posted November 19, 2005 Awesome mate, I can't wait to put some modern units on it, and maybe even start a campaign. Yowza! PS. If you're bored, some screens would be nice...
OFP_PUPSI 0 Posted November 19, 2005 Some screens which are shot in the new areas: Wehrmacht Platoon is resting somewhere in western France: A 8,8-PAK is defeating enemy armored forces ....: You might see that the newer areas are more open spaced. Does not mean there is no forest, but not that many as in the central part of Anjou. Cheers, O_P
harley 3 1185 0 Posted November 19, 2005 "Welcome to Bocage City - Population: 50,000,000 damn hedges." . Looks very nice, OFP_PUPSI. I'm already looking for some mines to lay...
OFP_PUPSI 0 Posted November 19, 2005 "Bocage city" ... hehehe, yeah the hedges are really nasty. Sometimes you start the battle in distances less then 50 meters, because you couldn´t see the enemy before. "Soldier, 12 o´clock, 50 meter --- Soldier, 11 o´clock, 50 meter --- Officer, 12 o´clock, 50 meter --- etc... then you really start to sweat ... bang, bang ... and you are mid in a furious battle .... ;-) That´s fun to play. Here some more screens of landscape: Cheers, O_P
dvargar 0 Posted November 19, 2005 Looks incredible i must say, IMHO the best looking countryside ive seen sofar, but isnt it far to big to have WWII scale battles on? Since large islands do tend to be cpu killers and 80 kmË› is very large.
OFP_PUPSI 0 Posted November 20, 2005 So, Anjou 1939-1944 V3.0 is now released. Please have a look on this Thread
