Model sometimes causing CtDs

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone.

We've got a problem with our latest addon.

In short, the addon sometimes causes CtDs while playing, but we are not able to find out, what causes the crash exactly.

We tried everything, even defining the tank as BIS M1A1 to be sure that there is no error in the config. We even splitted the model in different LoDs, but for some of us some LoDs crash and for others they do not.

It even happens, that a LoD crashes and on the next try it does not crash. banghead.gif

We're pretty sure it is related to the model itself, but we checked everything there:

- missing or wrong selections

- invalid faces, etc.

I would be very glad if you have any suggestions, as we did nearly everything we could to find the problem.

Cheers, TeRp

When I replace one of my mod vehicle used in the mission with the in-game vehicle, it works without crashing.

My magic ball told me crash is somehow related to AI soldiers aiming at the vehicle. It does not tell me anything more, but my guess is something in the vehicle they are aiming at is  broken in the model or in the config (missing or bad geometry, missing some required named points, or something like this).

If you do not know which vehicle is it, what you can do is first try to create a minimal repro case (i.e. remove things from the mission and keep as little as needed for it to crash). This way you will know which vehicle is causing the problem, and you can continue by inspecting it and comparing with other vehicles.

Hi,

this is related to the Leo release, right?

The problem is the texture, there are two 2048xE2 sized textures with 6MB in all. The number of points is reduced in the different numbers of lods, but the textures are always the same. Older PCs (like mine) have a lot of internal trouble to handle these. Using 2048 size in the first lod and reducing it for the other lods to 512, 256 size will avoid CtDs (on my PC).
