Camelot One 0 Posted January 10, 2002 I need some help figuring out how to run a LAN game. I have a few PC options: 1. Use my PC as server and client. 1.3Ghz AMD Thunderbird 512MB of RAM Hercules GeForce2 I want to play against 5 other PC's (6 players total) with NO AI players, just real people. My understanding was that it was the AI that put so much strain on a server. I tried using mine as both against 3 other players, and ran into serious LAG issues on mine. Other machines played just fine. I can play single, or MP against 1 other with no problems. 2 others gets just a hair choppy, but I can live with it. My other option is to use my backup PC as a dedicated server. Celeron 400 256MB of RAM 5400 33Mbps HD I tried using it last night, only 2 people playing, no AI. Game play was fine, no lag noticable, but I used the #monitor command and noticed that the fps was running around 48. I assume that number will keep dropping the more players I add. So my question is, which PC should I use? The video card in the celeron would never run the game, so I have to play on my primary. I could move another 256MB of ram from mine to the server if anyone thinks it might help. I'm pretty sure the problem there is the processor though. Any advice would be greatly appriciated, as I have 5 people coming over to play tonight! And some tech stuff: All but one PC is running 100Mb NICs, connected via 2 Linksys 10/100 auto sensing switchs. The PC running at 10Mb is not being used as a server at any time.
