No.19 0 Posted September 8, 2004 We just tried playing a multiplayer game using a game server (instead of just hosting like we've done before). But we can't figure out 2 things. 1) How can we preselect a specific mission instead of having to vote? Seems like we need to edit a config file, is that correct? 2) How do we set up difficulty settings so that all players share the same settings? Right now, it seems that players have different difficulty settings based on their local options, but that doesn't seem right.
RN Malboeuf 12 Posted September 8, 2004 you cant run a dediscated server and then play on the same machine, you are deviding 100% CPU usage between two CPU hogs (OFP server and OFP it self) if you have a P4 3.0 wuth HT is is some what possible download the dediserver and in the server.cfg just ass the missions class to it there is a admin.rtf that shows what to add in that dload and it places it in your OFP folder where the server is run look up in the users folder there will be a few player names in there or System or Adminstrator - the user name you are logged in as will be the on that is used by the server - so its one of the last two i listed in these is where you change the 3rd view, or gun cusor settings ect plus Placebo will smack your hand for not "searching" for this information heh
Batstat 10 Posted September 12, 2004 Based on your q, you seems to know how to start your server. If you only are a couple of ppl joining, then the most "admin like" of you logs in first and write -#vote admin 1 afterwards -#missions Then the admin can use the ofp gui to select missions, without waiting for the others to agree. For this you dont need any special server config file. You can start your regular OFP from an shortcut using -server as param. For more serious hosting, do as RN Malboeuf suggest.
