Baphomet 0 Posted August 10, 2004 I tried out CAT's desert storms for a mission I'm making but I found them to be slightly unsatisfactory for what my mission requires. So I thought I'd make my own. However I'm not terribly knowledgable in this area. One thing I noticed aside from the color that really put me off was the fact that the CAT sandstorms were only visible from a certain distance and then they were either on or off... So conceivably whilst one person is inside a sandstorm another person could see perfectly in the same area and shoot them. This is rather pointless. Does anyone know why this happens? More importantly. How it can be avoided? I'd really like to add something like this to my mission but I think I'll need to make my own solution.
Master_Chief 0 Posted August 15, 2004 if I remember correctly, CAT's sandstorms were just fireplaces with different coding. This is a really really old addon and it is best not used if you want a realistic sandstorm. The best thing you could do is learn how to use the 'drop' command, which is used to create particles like smoke, dust, and fire. You need to set it up so that the particles are generated over a large distance, instead of around one unit like CAT's addon did. You can find an excellent drop command tutorial over at OFPEC. Guest Posted August 15, 2004 Well the main problems lie in the whole Server/Client MP issue. The trick lies in making sure only the server initialises a Sandstorm "Event" but that each client is told of the event and then execs the drop array script.
