Lansen 0 Posted January 6, 2002 Hi I´m thinking of buying a new gfx card. The choice is between Elsa Gladiac 921 DVI, Asus V8200 GF3 Ti500 and ATI Radeon 8500 All in wonder. I would like to know if someone already have ATI Radeon 8500 and how it runs. Is it good with OFP, any problems and so on... I know there has been some problems with ATI gfx cards so thats why I want to know. Thx for any answers.
Angry Radish 0 Posted January 7, 2002 I took out my gf3 64m ddr and slapped in an all in wonder radeon 8500DV, becasue I needed the dv capture abilities, etc..., and overall I was pleased. OFP seemed to run better at higher res (1600, etc..), but I had a strange lag after playing for awhile, which only got worse the longer I played. It went away after reboot, but returned every time after a period of play. I made sure my bios was up to date, got the newest drivers for all my stuff, no luck. I ended up putting the 8500 in another machine, and put the geforce back in, and what do ya know, the pausing stopped. In the radeons' defense, ofp was the only game I had problems with, but since it's pretty much the only game I play these days, it had to go.... Anyone ever hear of a MB with 2 agp slots? i'd love to run both cards since the radeon doesn't perform nearly as well on the lower end system I have it in now :-( If your looking for ofp performance, I would definately say go for the geforce
WisdoM 1 Posted January 7, 2002 the AIW is clocked at slighty lower speeds than a normal 8500, so if you just want to do gaming, save the money and grab teh normal 8500, or the Ti500. Ti500 is still faster, but you do pay more for it, ATi fan boys will say I'm wrong but the benchmarks prove the Ti500 is faster, but 8500 is better for the money, you save about $50..which IMHO is worth it for the Ti500, but then again they say the GF4 will be out in a few months, and will be the best of the best. They are making a GF4 Ti1000 which is clocked @300/700 with 128MB of DDR on-board. save up ypur money for a few months and wait for its realease its better than both of those cards. Angry Radish 0 Posted January 8, 2002 Definately all true, especially the fact that the aiw is clocked lower than the regular 8500. The benchmarks I've seen has only scored the 8500 higher in some of the higher res at 32b color depth, and even then, the results were a bit mixed. While benchmarks are great, I still thought the anti-aliasing on the 8500 was better, but then it's personal preference :-) If there was an alternative to the AIW for good DV capture,tv tuner, etc... from the nvidia side of the fence, I would have grabbed it.... Wobble 1 Posted January 8, 2002 the Ti 500 is faster but the 8500 is more robust.. as in the Ti500 will have a higher FPS on overage, but will drop to lower FPS under extreme load. I got to try both o Aces high. here is what I saw.. TI500 78fps normal flight@1600x1200x32 dropped to 48fps when flying through dense smoke. 8500 72 fps normal flight dropped to 58 when flying through dense smoke.. most benchmarks seem to show similar results.. that the radeon can maintain higher fps under extreme load than the GF3, but the GF3 has higher fps when under normal use.. Im on the fence which to get myself, they are both great and It will probably boild down to which ever is cheapest... which will probably be the radeon.
