bmgarcangel 0 Posted July 15, 2004 You know, would a German Shep have been used by the US Forces or other forces, like the Brits or the Aussies, in the Korean War? ~Bmg

Site looks to be very informative. I am going to read more there and then see what else I can dig up. (EDIT: site is about a movie but there is some neat info in there. Link at the bottom is much better.) http://www.war-dogs.com/ Quote[/b] ]You know, would a German Shep have been used by the US Forces or other forces, like the Brits or the Aussies, in the Korean War?~Bmg The Army Quartermaster Corps began the U.S. Armed Forces first war dog training during WWII. By 1945 they had trained almost 10,000 war dogs for the Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. Fifteen War Dog platoons served overseas in World War II. Seven saw service in Europe and eight in the Pacific. In 1951 the responsibility for training military dogs was given to the Military Police Corps. Dogs continued to serve the armed forces with distinction in Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Afghanistan and Iraq and many recent contingency operations. FerretFangs 0 Posted July 17, 2004 You know where all US military working dogs come from? Right here where I live, Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas. Incidently, all the working dogs for all the US federal agencies are inducted into service here as well.
