Compound animation?

Recommended Posts

Animations on buildings, like doors, are simple enough, but is it possible to have compound animations in OFP? Would it be possible to have a flat object with segments roll up by having the animated segments built upon each other and timed properly?

Haven't actually tried anything like this, just thought it up now. Wouldn't know what to search for.

Hmm, maybee i don't understand what you really want, but AFAIK it is possible to ani. named vertex points (so for each segment). If you want it to simulate a vertical movement you could ani. left and right vertex points (of each segment). Well, a lot ani. setups and with some scripting (~1..) you could adjust the total ani.

A lot of work and i don't think the end result will be what you though (meaning...vertical movement isn't perfect, also depends on height..ext).

Anyway, good luck.

(Was recently thinking of an animated "stinger" (spike-tire). Suppose you mean something simular(animation part?)

Similar idea, yes. Something moving that's attached to something else which is also moving, and keeping the movement coordinated.

I was thinking along the lines of a tent flap which rolls up into a bundle when opened. It would go from being fairly flat to being cylindrical.

The more I think about it the more it seems to be incredibly complicated, unless OFP can do rotations relative to other parts of the object and in real-time.

Actually... I could have each successive part of the animation contain each previous object and time each animation to fold properly. The bottom of the flap would wrap up once, then the folded bottom part and the next one could fold up together, then a group with the next segment and the two previous ones could roll up. It's time to start experimenting, I have no idea how OFP would handle such animations, if it can.

Yes it can be done and it was done in the stargate addon tounge_o.gif Don't have the link anymore but if anyone is interested Wizzywig knows the download link for stargate .

You can only animate each selection once in the direction of the corresponding axis.

You can do some multipart animations like I did with the Corsair F4U landing gear using hidden selections.I also animated the wheels and made them roll.

I have the self inflating liferaft that just looks inflating by animating the vertex rather than actual selections.

Technically you can also animate something in the same way you make animations for a soldier using character like animations, hope that statement doesn't confuse you.

But like my tagline...anything is possible depending on your imagination
