threat.at 0 Posted April 11, 2004 Hi there! I know, there is a far way to got through CWC for me, I'm actually trying the mission "Interdiction--On the Rocks Near Lolisse" - this undercover night mission. Man, this is hard, really - I don't think, anyone managed this mission in the first try... I also have no clue, how I should get those satchels to the tanks, because there are lots of ruskies on patrol and a T80 ist also on the move. In every move I got spotted and.... *singing* this is the end, my only friend, the end... surely there will be a way somehow and I will succeed then, but: The missions are varying very strong in difficulty and length (which also is a big factor with only one savegame). IMHO this isn't very good for the motivation - in one mission the player despairs because he tries and tries and tries... then he uses this "endmission" cheat or succeeds somehow and the next mission is much more easier - this continues for some missions and then - such an Impossible Mission again... I know, in real life you cannot choose, how the life goes - sometimes it is easy, sometimes it is hard - but it would be an improvement, if the degree of mission difficulty would not vary that much, but would get harder and harder with time. I also would prefer, when there would be no rule changing - so the player could identify himself better with the actor in the game... OK, it has also the advantage, that the player gets to know every branch of service. Right... probably parted this in chapters would make sense? Being a soldier is my opinion easier than being a undercover agent... Besides: Did anyone succed at the single mission "Ambush"? My squad get's annihilated and then I'm the only survivor and have to get back somehow... please get me a sniper rifle
Friedchiken 0 Posted April 11, 2004 Wow, you are hopeless. Â Sorry, but at least you should be able to do Ambush (until the end trigger doesn't work anyways) Â As for interdiction, it's all in your head. Â You shouldn't have to engage in combat with the freaking tanks or patrols. Â Just hide in bushes when the tank comes, plant a satchel, and repeat. Plus at this point you should know how to stay undetected and how to scan the area with you binocs I mean, damn. Â I shoot better w/out a sniper rifle. Â Just think that the m16 is zeroed in at 400m. Â Um... did you play the demo before you bought the game? sorry
threat.at 0 Posted April 11, 2004 Look! What should I do, when the whole squad plays Kamikaze? "Oh no, 1 is down" "Oh no, 3 is down" "Oh no.... First the commander, then one after another... like I said, give me a sniper rifle and let me do my job... but I have only this f...ing M16... And I'm firing on an enemy, which is only 4 pixels large. But he gives me a headshot... What resolution and video settings (in the options menu) are you playing, friedchicken? ...God, what would I give to see one of you playing OFP - maybe I would then see my failures in behaviour... Friedchiken 0 Posted April 11, 2004 I play at a massive resolution like 1600, maybe that's the problem. Â Even 400m guys aren't too hard to see; hitting requires tons of ammo though (use like 10 bullets). Also I use 900m fog. default Maybe we should have a fraps film festival showing us playing missions. Oh, I know, hit the right mouse button to point out enemies. Â But I know what you mean when the squad is ordered to do stupid movements. Â In the Pathfinder mission, the squad is ordered to hold fire and run across a field! Â Now THAT is messed up. Â I have to give shitloads of covering fire for anyone to survive that bout of idiocy. Â Notice how user missions make use of the "danger" mode for ai. Actually I can sympasize, it's just that the m16 isn't that hard to shoot with. Â EDIT:: actually 400m is flat hard. Â I meant that in the Ambush mission you are engaging guys at 250m. When you line up the m16 sights, put the target above the "tail," not in the middle. And in the Ambush mission I play "point man," slowly moving ahead of my team, bush to bush, shooting only to defend myself and calling out targets. Then your teammates hit the dirt and don't kamakaze. Hmm, maybe OFP isn't newbie friendly We should have optional training "challenges" to teach basic tricks. Friedchiken 0 Posted April 11, 2004 Oh cool, here's a decent looking video of ppl playing multiplayer. Â Big file though but I think you would like this. OFP Campers Video Edit:: Um wow, I never play ofp like that . NM, at you play like how you like to play k?
threat.at 0 Posted April 12, 2004 OK - I play with resolution 1024x768 - you have 156% more pixels on the screen then I - that's more than the DOUBLE!!! This seems to declare much... So I also recognized, that the Vulcans fire at a Hind, which is 1300m away - nothing to see for far - but they hit. I also played a User mission, where I tried to hit a Vulcan - but suddenly the shots came out of the fog and hit me dozends of times, til the hind exploded in the sky... Where do you change your "fog" distance? I only know "viewing range" and the LOD values in the preferences... Probably you could take a look at this... Friedchiken 0 Posted April 12, 2004 Vulcans have "radar," so they ignore fog distance. Â And viewing distance is in the ingame options menu. Â And 1024 is a terrible resolution for me. Â I can't hit anything.
threat.at 0 Posted April 12, 2004 OK, they have radar, as I thought... but you can only mark the target... or is there some targeting automatic? And now I know, why I have it a little bit harder than the others... 1024 ist the only resolution, which my monitor understands with 86Hz. All other resolutions start flickering... Time for me to send my 5 year old monitor to the rent? Seems so...
