vasgork 0 Posted March 28, 2004 I was shocked when I found out that new Sockets Implementation doesn't support VON (Voice Over Net) can any one explaine why BIS did not include VON in Socket implemmention ? and when it will be available for sockets?
joltan 0 Posted March 28, 2004 Ah, 'new sockets implementation' - uh, yeah, right. VON is only available in DirectPlay mode as the voice com is a feature of that very network service. It's not as if BIS had written their own voice com - they just implemented what Microsoft offered anyways. For sockets they would either have had to write their own voice com or to license a third party product. With many seperate voice applications like TS and RW available the priority was probably low in comparison to improving OFP itself. While it would be nice to have something similar to VON implemented in OFP 2, you never had a chance to moderate the voice channel (i.e. to identify and get rid of voice spammers). For now you still can play using DirectPlay whenever you feel like using the internal voice com. There's even some public servers (like Kyllikki) who still use it. vasgork 0 Posted March 28, 2004 But which ports should I open in my firewall for DirectPlay, because UDP 2302 doesn't seem to be enough, however that's all sockets need is just that one port.
