Baphomet 0 Posted February 17, 2004 I've amassed quite a collection of sounds from other games that I've "raided", "looted", and generally "stolen" with gleefully reckless and disrespectful abandon. It feels good to steal sounds from other games for the benefit of OFP-kind. I've ripped sounds from Project IGI/2, devastation, Jurassic Park: Trespasser, America's Army, and this helo sim for some of the really cool chopper sounds. I need help however continuing this tradition with a certain game. I was just wondering if someone with the .net (blecch) framework would be willing to help. As I won't touch that garbage with a 10 foot pole. I'd be glad to share the sounds I've already ripped with the community if they want them. It's simply a matter of lack of knowledge or location to host them which has kept me from doing so already. Anyhow? Should this be in one of the breathe forums or? There's nothing really pertaining to sound and media that I can see.
hellfish6 7 Posted February 17, 2004 Moving to addon config and scripting, where I think it will find a better response. I'm not sure of the legality of what you're doing, but I know it's been done before.
Baphomet 0 Posted February 17, 2004 I'm sure game developers wouldn't like it, but so long as you're not selling what you make. What're they going to do? It's such a piddly little thing I don't see how they'd care much. Besides that, I've heard quite a few sounds for OFP addons and mods in general that use sounds ripped from other games. I just happen to particularly enjoy ripping them off of other games to use as I wish. I know some companies do actively prohibit it. Max payne 2 for example. I couldn't seem to get the sounds from that. Which is a damn shame. I'm having trouble with Raven shield, because the only ut2003 uax archive extractor requires the .net framework. Which I refuse to install.
Baphomet 0 Posted February 17, 2004 Argh. You can't rip them from Raven shield. I'm going to go and incinerate every trace of UBI soft off the face of the earth now.
Madus_Maximus 0 Posted February 17, 2004 Woo! Down with Ubi! Well ok, they bring themself down with "quality" (haha) programming that never (haha again) crashes/screws up, and their games are never (haha, notice a pattern emerhing) full of bugs. Ravenshield has only had about, oh 11 patches in just over a year since release. Isn't that amazing? Still has bugs left in they said they'd fix in the 2nd patch too. Oh well... Pathy 0 Posted February 21, 2004 Lol, you can rip sounds from any game man, without some stupid converter.....just load up your recorder, set it going, start a LAN game or something, so you can be undisturbed, then fire of a load of shots (and get reload sounds) until your happy, quit the game, stop the recording, use a wavestudio of some kind to capture the single sounds, and....bob is now your uncle.... Baphomet 0 Posted February 22, 2004 Actually... I kind of begged the guy who made UTPT (unreal tournament package tool) to make a ripper for it... he said he will "consider it". That microphone idea is all fine and dandy I guess but you'd get a disproportionate balance of treble versus bass. Anyhow. I dunno. Some of the sounds for Raven shield I -really- want. They have one of the best and more realistic shotgun sounds in any game (shotguns do -not- sound like gigantic explosions going off)... and not to mention an excellent sound for a Mac 11. Probably the best out there. Still. I don't really care much for the game itself. It's fine and all despite the inactivity of UBI to support the community, completely unlike BIS, who have gone further beyond the call of duty than any company I've ever known. It's also because of it's limitations, rather shallow after a few plays... which is why the good sounds deserve a proper home in a game where they'll get used a lot. Pathy 0 Posted February 24, 2004 You dont use a mic,use an internal recorder.....its records sounds exactly......you just have to posses a tiny amount of skill to filter background noise and get the perfect sound, but well worth doing it......Oh if there is a spas12 sound in raven shield, id love it if you could record it
Baphomet 0 Posted February 27, 2004 If I knew what sort of software I could use to record internally I'd definitely give it a go.
Pathy 0 Posted March 1, 2004 I have a creative sound card, includes a simply titled "recorder", you just set it to record "what u hear", so basically any sound played by the PC, then use creative Wave Studio to take the samples you want from the sound. Ermm, you could pick up a 5.1 sound card for about Å35, even something cheaper maybe, as long as it has the software packaged with it (which comes with all creative sound cards, i know)
Baphomet 0 Posted March 2, 2004 Hm. I have a SB live 5.1 It's the screaming shits for playing ofp under windows XP but I think I've seen that feature before now that you mention it. Thanks for reminding me. Heh.
Pathy 0 Posted March 2, 2004 Ahah 5.1 rules doesnt it Good luck with the recorder
Baphomet 0 Posted March 7, 2004 Breakthrough! I felt inclined out of desperation to load the .sb0 files into adobe audition to see if they were some kind of raw file format. It appears they are! Score. There's a bit of light hiss in the conversion that a few filters strategically placed won't fix. In fact I've made my first conversion of the M1 shotgun. So It's looking good. Unfortunately there's too much background noise to get rid of in the actual game to record and edit out. At least beyond my abilities. Still. This is good news. I'm going to continue ripping select sounds for OFP-specific use. Anyone who wants em just give me a shout.
