Pipski 0 Posted January 3, 2004 Also, my mission involves the player taking command of a PBS2 and driving it over 4km-odd of ocean to reach a fairly small island. In Cadet mode this is fine, because there's a big shiny waypoint visible. In Veteran mode it's a nightmare because even given a compass bearing you only have to deviate by a couple of degrees and you miss the place completely (and it's at night which doesn't help!) and end up driving around in circles getting further and further away from it. Anyone have any bright ideas as to how I might simplify the business of navigating to the island for players in Veteran mode?
edc 0 Posted January 3, 2004 You could enable GPS, so they'd know where they are.
Pipski 0 Posted January 3, 2004 I could. As in, enable GPS and put the co-ordinates of the target in the briefing? I shall do that. Ta!
walker 0 Posted January 4, 2004 Hi all Without GPS Distance You need an accurate distance measure (measure distance traveled by this boat at speed x over time t.) Now calculate how many minutes you have to travel to reach the distance to the object. Bearing Do not aim directly at the object you wish to travel to. Instead head to one side of it. You do this so that even if you made an error in travel you know it will still be to one side of you not the other. Travel at 90 degrees to your original course untill you meet the island for a reasonable length of time. If that fails conduct a spiral search to find your island. For the record this a standard navigation and search procedure used in moutain rescue in fog. You could cheat by using a soldier in your squad to do the navigation for you Kind Regards Walker
