v1.30 upgrade yields v1.20

Recommended Posts

Greets:

I recently attempted to upgrade OFP v1.29 to v1.30.

After unzipping, OFPpatch.exe would not execute.

The results were the same after 3 other downloads from various codemaster/mirror sites at www.flashpoint1985.com.

A version check of OFPPatch.exe (v1.29 upgrade download) revealed 1.29.

A version check of OFPPatch.exe (v1.30 upgrade download) revealed 1.20.

The 1.30 upggrade download was actually v1.20 and therefore did not execute.

I hope this spares you some grief.

Can someone suggest a valid v1.30 upgrade site?

Ty

If all you are getting is the silly splash screen and brief CD-ROM access, and then the installer exits, join the club. The stupid copy-protection code or settings were changed with the V1.30 patch, and it fails to install on a lot of systems, including mine.

The work-around for myself (and quite a few others, I would assume) has been to get a NoCD hack.

Have you tried uninstalling OFP and re-installing up to version 1.20 and upgrading to 1.30? That's what 100% of the people who had 1.29 installed had to do.

Most people will agree that going from V1.29 to V1.30 is a bad idea, and isn't a supported upgrade path. Still, I too had problems when trying to go from V1.20 to V1.30 because of SafeDisc changes.

I have backed up all OFP installations on separate CDs, so I can easily revert back to any version by just copying the folders back onto my system, but the V1.30 installer just wouldn't run on my system, and it failed with the symptoms I described.

I contacted both Codemasters and BIS regarding the problem, and the two guys at CM I spoke to were completely clueless, while BIS never bothered getting back to me. That's why I had to get a NoCD hack, which solved the problem.

But how do you explain the fact that I don't have a problem with the upgrade? Is it different hardware we have? OS?

If you are talking about possible problems with either applying the V1.30 patch or running the game after installing the patch, yes, I think differences in hardware are responsible.

The SafeDisc V2 engine and/or engine settings were changed several times during OFP's lifespan, and my particular system has had problem with some of them. It wasn't that big a deal to me when it happened with interim updates or betas, but it got real frustrating when it happened with official releases, such as V1.30.

My friends would upgrade to the new version, and I'd be left behind because the MP protocols became incompatible.

Basically, SafeDisc does nothing to prevent piracy, as is evident from the many people who have shown up on these boards and who have admitted to using Warez versions. At the same time, it is causing lots of problems for legitimate owners of the program.

It is time to get rid of that crappy engine, and just rely on FADE...
