Ww2 armor re-vamp

Recommended Posts

Hi

Im re-writeing all WW2 addon configs

So what is a good armor value to start of with?

How many shots would a Panzer 4 take to destroy a sherman and visa versa

Not sure about that...

But I do know that Panther tanks could take out a Sherman Firefly (british, commonwealth sherman) in one shot. The same for Tiger tanks. In fact, theres records of Tiger tanks taking out Shermans in one shot from over a mile away.

I seem to remember on my last visit to the Tank Museum in Bovington that there was mention of on average it took 5 Shermans too take out a Panther, how they got that figure I'm not sure, whether it's the ratio of Shermans taken out by Panthers against the number of Panthers taken out by Shermans or whether they did actually used to send 5 Shermans up against a single Panther.

Just to be picky the Sherman Firefly is actually the later model with the 76mm gun, the 75mm Shermans were just known as Shermans in British service.

A good armour value for WWII armour hey.................. tounge_o.gif

I'd say around 3/4 (three quaters) that of a T-55. But with an armour value as low as that, you'd want to have shells that aren't as powerful as the T-55's, so you'd want to reduce the AP (Armour Piercing) value so that it might take 1 and a half to two front on shots to destroy the tank, less than one shot from the side. rock.gif

Shermans should be on shot, then disabled kill, much due to their tendancy to simply catch fire once hit! sad_o.gif

The British crews didn't name them Ronsons after Ronson Cigarette Lighters for nothing, as Ronsons slogan was at the time "Lights first time everytime".

In fact the Germans used to call them Tommy Cookers, not sure I'd fancy going up against a Panther or a Tiger in a Sherman.

If you have a look on the OFPEC boards, under Addon Editing there was a thread in there a while back about the WWIIEC's attempt to standardise armour and shell values with a some form of formula for creating config values from real world values, it may be of some use to you.

Find the thread and released table of armour values and use that so there is some parity with ww2 addons, not just guesswork 'about half a t55'!! AFAIK the table had front, side and rear armour values for virtually all ww2 armoured vehicles along with values for ww2 firepower, artillery and at weapons inclusive.

Karrillion's RTS-3 includes pretty much every WW2 addon released (in the WW2 version of course) with re-written armour and firepower configs so you may want to check that out before spending lots of your time basically duplicating what is already in existence. smile_o.gif
