FetishFool 0 Posted December 19, 2001 When I try to command 12 or more tanks in my squad, the tanks don't follow formation. Â And when I tell them to ALL go somewhere, only the tank that 2 is commanding moves. I can tell them all to move somewhere. Â But I have to tell them individually. I never had this problem before. Can you tell me what I did wrong?: Download my 12 tank mission: http://www.geocities.com/fetishfoolsd/disk_drive.html And when I command more than 12 soldiers, I can't tell the other soldiers what to do. Â All they do is follow me. I can set their formation and status in the mission editor, but not during gameplay. I never had this problem before, either. I use the Join And Lead function to command more than 12 soldiers. Do these two problems happen everyone, or is my FADE back? I think I have FADE because ever since I installed some addons, I've been able to run through walls. FetishFool 0 Posted December 19, 2001 And Yes, I have an official copy. And No, I don't normally experience FADE. And when I say "RUNNING through walls", I mean RUNNING. Not CLIPPING.
vitoal125 0 Posted December 19, 2001 it happens because your not meant to have more than 12 people in a group. You only have F1 through F12 to select men anyways. Probably the same problem with your tanks, but I thought of a solution for that one. If you have three groups of 12 men all of them being crew and then put 12 empty tanks, you could make the first group all commanders of the tanks, then the second group could be gunners and the third could be drivers. Then just use the moveindriver moveingunner and moveincommander commands in each units initfield.
Gaswell 1 Posted December 19, 2001 It would be interesting if you could control up to 11 AI squad leaders, who in turn controlled up to 11 AI guys. After all, the squad leader AI seem to handle all the micro-management pretty well (go to medic, target this and that, etc.) If you ordered an AI squad leader to move somewhere, you'd in effect give the squad a MOVE waypoint. If you ordered an AI squad leader to attack a target, you'd be giving them a DESTROY waypoint. All behaviour modifiers (stealth, stand up, engage at will, etc.) given to an AI squad leader would filter down to the rest of the squad. Any enemy contacts made by the AI-led squad could be reported to you by the AI squad leader. When the AI squad leaders follow your formation you have a platoon/company formation. That way you could have full control of up to 132 men, 44 tanks, or 66 helos. Just too bad that AI units can't follow (formation) leaders not in their own group. Hmm... what happens if I add more than 12 men to a group by script, then also script that #13, #14, etc. should follow #2? Wouldn't #2 then be acting as formation leader for #13+? I always thought seriously bad stuff would happen if I added more than 12 guys to a group, but now I feel the urge to experiment...
FetishFool 0 Posted December 19, 2001 I tried that before Gaswell. But I think BIS anticipated people doing that. Because when I used the same script that I used for the Demo, the game crashed. When I used the Join And Lead function to command more than 12 soldiers, I used to be able to select ALL the soldiers under my command with the (~) key. Now, I can only select soldiers 1-12. Vitoal, I use the MoveIn commands to get a Gunner and a Driver into the tanks. But the problem is that when I send one of my soldiers in as Commander, I sort of lose control of him. It gets tedious when I have to tell my soldiers where to move individually.
vitoal125 0 Posted December 19, 2001 Well, I never tried it so I wasn't exactly sure what results you would get, but are you one of the commanders for the tanks? Perhaps if you are the leader of the 'commander' group, all the tank commanders will keep formation with you. Once again, this is untested and only a suggestion. FetishFool 0 Posted December 19, 2001 Yes. I tried getting into a tank myself, and going on foot. I think it's just an editing problem. Download my sample mission to see if it works for you. Because I think I have FADE.
