chemxxx 0 Posted November 17, 2001 When I played at network party through a hub + multiplayer worked fine. But I'm at home trying to play with my brother and can't get it to go. If I try to host a game it takes a long time to get to the map select and then it kicks me to windows when I choose a map. If he hosts a game it works fine until I try to join, then it pauses for about 2 minutes and says something to the effect of "cannot connect". Any suggestions? Does it maybe have something to do with the IP address I'm assigning under TCP/IP?
RN Malboeuf 12 Posted November 17, 2001 if you can make sure you have the simmular Network set up as the other place did, you might be just missing something, NET BEUI or IPX mabey, it's hard to say i never tried OFP on LAN it's possible your TC/IP is corupt, try installing all three and see how it goes
Mister Frag 0 Posted November 18, 2001 Sounds like both PCs may have the same IP address assigned to them. OFP uses DirectX's DirectPlay interface for the network transport, so run the DirectX Diagnostics (DXDIAG.EXE) and click on the Network tab. In that dialog, you can test the networking APIs to verify that it is working correctly.
chemxxx 0 Posted November 18, 2001 nah, different IP's 111.111.111.110 111.111.111.
chemxxx 0 Posted November 18, 2001 Ok, I don't know if this is getting better or worse but I now when I select a map and try to hit OK nothing happens. It does this on both computers.
Mister Frag 0 Posted November 18, 2001 Did you try DXDIAG yet? Are both systems using a separate CD key?
chemxxx 0 Posted November 19, 2001 I did the test for IPX and got that to work. I couldn't get the TCP/IP one to connect though. We're both using the same key, but that shouldn't be a problem because it worked through the hub.
Mister Frag 0 Posted November 19, 2001 Bad news on both accounts. Once you get the networking problem sorted out, you WILL run into problems if both of you use the same CD key. Also, the only network transport supported by OFP is TCP/IP, so only having IPX working isn't good enough, either.
RN Malboeuf 12 Posted November 19, 2001 once OFP detects that you use the same CD key it wont let you conect radomly to LAN or on the Net and your Aimming will be off you wont get no more support
chemxxx 0 Posted November 19, 2001 It worked fine through the hub with the same key. We played for like 2 hours with no degrade in play.
StormCrow 0 Posted November 20, 2001 chemxxx...you have run into RN malboef...AKA the "Fade Troll". He gets a thrill by trolling the boards and telling them how screwed they are because they are pirates. It's no use even trying to continue the thread with him onboard.
