Texturing tutorial

Recommended Posts

Hey gang,

Does anyone have any links to a slightly more advanced texturing tutorial for Visitor islands? I have a decent handle on laying down textures from the BIS tutorial, but the textures all look square, because you have to select square areas ro texture, and that looks a bit naff of course. smile_o.gif

I'm sure I saw a link here not too long ago from someone advertising their newish texturing tutorial, but I can't find it anymore. I remember it was about applying textures based on terrain height and gradient, and stuff like that.

Basically I want to learn how to apply various textures in a more natural way, instead of squares, so any help would be most appreciated. biggrin_o.gif

Cheers

Visitor will create/lay the textures automaticaly if you fill in the 'elavation' specifics for each texture, say if you put sand from -20M to +30M then grass from +30M to 300M, then rock from 300M to 550M. It will automaticaly merge them together as well...

You can make it more interseting by having grass and sand only from 0 to 45degrees, then have rock at the same height but from 45degrees to 90degrees, so that any steep slope is rocky instead of grass. Even better you can have sandstone for the +45degree up to 100M then have 'normal' stone at higher than 100M smile_o.gif ...

You can also fill in the 'variable' setting with another simular texture (dark or patchy grass texture) then set the % percentage for how often it'll use the 'patchy' texture instead of the normal one...

Read this thread for a basic guide :  Texture elavation intervals ...
