Uziyahu--IDF 0 Posted August 31, 2003 I need someone who can access satellite elevation data for another part of the world and then convert it to a .wrp. Please contact me at uziyahu AT yahoo DOT com
Guest Posted September 1, 2003 MAPMART If you follow the links....DEMs=>7.5second etc you will get to a Java-like page with a map. Just pic which area of the USA you want a DEM of, and download it. As for other areas of the world, do a search for DEM (Digital Elevation Model). That's the best format to then convert into a wrp.
Uziyahu--IDF 0 Posted September 2, 2003 Okay, I've got the DEM, at a crappy 900-meter resolution, but that might still serve my purpose, because what I need is a .wrp that has been shrunk to 2% or so of its actual-size IN-GAME. How big is each cell on a .wrp, again? Anyone think they can tackle this? Turning actual-size DEM data into a map 2% of actual-size IN-GAME? I imagine it would involve averaging, or maybe picking the highest (or lowest) elevation every interval of so many meters? *shrugs* The idea is to recreate the geography of a real place, but then shrink it to a typically playable 12km x 12km terrain. About what percentage of a Tank main gun's normal range does an expert tank aim and fire at in OFP? Whatever that percentage is, it would be the tolerance for such a shrunken map. The difference would be the unrealism of the map's being shrunken. If I'm not conjugating my verbs correctly, it's probably because I don't have much practice at conjugation. Guest Posted September 3, 2003 I only know how to import into WRPEdit....which uses 50x50m cells. To resize DEM files you need a program called "MicroDEM"...available here: MicroDEM I can email you a brief tutorial on it (not written by me, but I have no URL for it) and the other program (s) you will need to get it in-game....let me know if that's ok? I have never tried what you are attempting, so I think you have a few experiments ahead of you But it might work out very nicely. PS....your english is very good. Uziyahu--IDF 0 Posted September 4, 2003 Yes, please send me the tutorial to uziyahu AT yahoo DOT com I bought the DEM for the area I needed, the Sinai Peninsula, Israel, and surrounding areas, but it doesn't look like it turned out correctly? Can I *use* this? For some reason, everything smears downwards towards the right side.
Guest Posted September 5, 2003 Might be an import problem. There are particular ways to set up MicroDEM. If necessary you will be able to split up the DEM, fix it up and re-combine the pieces. Anyway sending stuff now  EDIT: Sent
