The usual sound crackling problem...

Recommended Posts

If its of any help to all the people with the sound crackling issue, I recently updated my computer with XP, and I have now got the problem too.

Originally my computer was on Millenium Addition, but since the upgrade, OFP has been behaving badly!

I've found that when large explosions (like a heat round) is fired and impacts, sometimes the sound will abruptly crackle and distort all remaining sound. The only way you can stop this is by restarting OFP.

I have read the Avon Lady's FAQ on fixing the problem, and I have gone into the REgedit thingy, but it appears I don't have the same folders or files.

Has anyone got these sound problems on an older operating system? Like ME or 98?

I only experience this problem sometimes with Winamp (with music) runnning in the background. I figured it was caused by to many sounds @ the same time.

Didn´t know it´s an XP related problem, but now i´ll have a look at Avon´s FAQ.

I just found out its related to other sounds aswell. Not only the heat rounds but also speech over the radio and all sorts!

I'm gonna download the XP Drivers for my sound card and see if it resolves the issue, I'll keep you updated!

Thankfully its fixed. From what i've learnt it definatly had something to do with the XP Upgrade. Although to fix the problem it really depends on what PC you have. In my case, XP made my VIA chipset cause the random static.

In the end I didn't download the drivers but re-read the FAQ by the Avon Lady and downloaded the "PCI Latency Patch".

Here is the FAQ item and the patch link.

Also there is more info at this forum thread where people have had the similar problem.

Hope this helps biggrin_o.gif
