H++ 0 Posted August 14, 2003 I know this idea pretty HL, but I think I would like to see recordable games of some sort. Why? Well I rather dislike having to remember to hit printscreen to grab screeners while Im trying to bring down a BMP. Also, my close knit group of opflashers do want to see the ridiclous stuff we get up to like trying to crush snipers with littlebirds and observing the duo traps the map makers put into maps (e.g. "Speed" busses that blow up after you go under 100kph). Hellek 0 Posted August 15, 2003 I have seen a 3rd party tool for the old game "total annihilation" which AFAIK first simulates a game client for recording and then for playback simulates a server and sends you all the stuff it recorded before. To make this work with OFP2, BI would of course have to define something like a special recording client which does not receive just what is happening around him but instead everything. So I think it should not be to difficult to make something for recording, would be cool if BI would do it.
H++ 0 Posted August 15, 2003 Well it doesnt need to be that complex, lets just say something that records what the player sees on screen well. I suppose with an engine like OFP1s it could record everything, but halflife style ones will be ok. Also, as regards to running it server side, again, I dont think that taking resources from the server is a good idea. I think clients should at least have the option to record as well as/instead of the server.
InqWiper 0 Posted August 15, 2003 Recording would be perfect for clan matches when people start accusing of this and that. If every player can record the game the other clan can just request the video from that player to see that he is not cheating or spawnkilling or whatever. That is just one thing. I would really like to be able to record to capture some cool/funny/weird things that dont happen often. It would be really cool if the recorded game could be played up and you could fly around and see yourself from different angles and watch what other people did from theire angles. Ofcourse it wouldnt be so smooth to watch what happened 1000 meters away but it would still be nice to be able to see. Maybe the ability to combine videos recorded from the same game by different players at different places to get a smoother video of the whole game. This would be soo cool :-)
H++ 0 Posted August 15, 2003 Now you see flying 1000 m away would require the server to send you EVERYTHING thats happening EVERYWHERE on the whole island. I havent looked at the protocal and execution of the server but im guessing it does not do that. However, it could record I assume say everything that you could see in 3rd person view from almost any angle? That is of course, OFP1 theory and for the moment, I will assume the two are similar. Maybe as a further feature, post game, the demos could be converted into say mpgs or avi's for viewing by those who dont have opflash2. Might be a bit of a download tho. InqWiper 0 Posted August 15, 2003 As I said it will ofcourse only record the information you get therefor it will not look as smoth while spectating someone who was 1000 meters away from you while you were recording. If you try to spectate 5000 meters away you probably wont be able to see the guys who were fighting there. I was thinking recording what information you get when you play OFP online now. It would still be nice to be able to spectate a bit from your location even if it not so smooth and ofcourse you will no be able to see exactly what hapens on the whole map. Thats why I said that it would be nice if you could combine the recordings from several players to get a bigger better cover of the game and if every player records the game you can watch wherever you want and it will look perfect.
