Question about arma 2

I wanted to ask is arma 2 a good starting place for getting into arma 3 I've wanted to try arma 2 as someone new to milsims but idk if it'll be ok so I wanted to ask people who have played arma geometry dash lite

Hi, welcome to BI forums!

Arma 2 is an ok starting place to get into milsim, but that depends on what your interest are too.

Are you into singleplayer? Multiplayer? or want to build your own scenarios?

 

     Both games are good, just Arma 3 is way more developed including its 3d editor, community mods, scenarios, campaigns, scripts, and many other things.

      There was a website that closed down back in May 2021 😖 which was called Armaholic, and it hosted all the mods, scripts

and scenarios of the community since Arma 1, Arma 2, and OA so now the Arma 2 players are limited to what they have saved themselves,

and another server for files that is maintained by a couple of guys.

 

Arma 3 on the other hand uses steam workshop for everything mods and missions, the game recently had a massive update, so its being continually updated.

    I would suggest asking questions about either game to get an idea of what your looking to do,

what are your interests in general to want to get into a milsim type game?

 

   Both Arma 2 and Arma 3 are complex games, both have high learning curves, though i think Arma 3 is a bit more complex but more

user friendly in various aspects, both games are sandbox games which include an editor.

 

    Server wise if you want to play Arma2 on a server then your going to need to learn how to install mods if you can locate them,

and setup desktop shortcuts or use the expansion menu in the game to enable stuff. Alot of stuff is manual in Arma 2, whereas arma 3

has a launcher to configure mods, parameters, access servers public, or private, mods are simple to install just 1 click and its done depending on its size.

 

      Arma 2 and the previous games are ya simpler but their also "old school" games meaning that alot of the things are manual, and simpler.

Arma 3 as said to me is more user friendly and straight forward though that depends on who you talk too, but overall it depends on what you want to do.

     Maybe those that still play Arma 2 can shed more light on the subject for Arma 2 in comparison.

 

Personally i'd say go for Arma 3 but maybe for now we can at least fill you in on everything Arma 2 and Arma 3 and see what interests you the most.
