ARMA 3 - Saved campaign cannot be restored

After I started a campaign, I manually saved the game several times. Autosave was also performed several times during the long game.
I quit ARMA 3 properly and restarted it at a later time. After the restart, the game was neither updated nor were expansions or mods installed.

 

In the main menu, I now select single player => campaign => select the same campaign again in the list, but can only select "rewind" or "replay" - whereby rewinding is out of the question for me.
"Restart", on the other hand, loads a saved game from 4 hours ago.

 

I really hope that restoring my saved games is due to ARMA 3's lack of user-friendliness, or have the last 4 hours of gameplay actually been deleted?

I realise that I'm not that important. But I didn't realise that no one had ever had this problem before.

Completely unsubstantiated statement. Forum activity dropped by a considerable number ever since the official Discord server was introduced. Receiving an answer does not depend on importance of the entity but on how the question was formed, at what hour it was asked and what category it was placed in. And a bit of luck to have it seen by someone who can actually help. And expecting an answer within 3 hours in those circumstances is a bit... detached.

 

I do not recall an option called "Rewind". You can either "Revert" from the beginning of a mission or "Resume" to continue with the latest save. Arma 3 is prone to have the "Resume"-type saves getting removed when there is a ton of saving happening or a lot of data to be saved. One of possible solutions would be as follows:

 

1. Use file explorer to find your save folder ( Usually C:\Users\yourname\Documents\Arma 3\Saved\[Campaign folder, don't remember the name])

2. Find one of the existing savegame files, say autosave.Arma3Save or save.Arma3Save.

3. Make a copy of that file and rename it to "continue.Arma3Save".

4. Restart Arma and the "Resume" button should be available.

 

It is possible the save will be older than the last one you made, but still, probably better than starting over. And this issue is pretty common. Googling "Arma 3 can't load recent save" or anything similar would return a dozen results with the solution I posted and some more.

It's a shame that ARMA3 confirms my fears. That spoils the fun of the game considerably. Apart from that, I'm certainly not going to do a workaround every time before starting ARMA3 just because the developers aren't able to use their heads to build a halfway functioning main menu.

Quite the opposite: it makes me want to do sports and do something for my health instead.

Don't take it personally, but you've fallen for exactly the same trick that I always use on forums - if I visit a forum once in a hundred years, because of your mentioned and the most common reason: The most don’t know the answers either.

 

Anyway, the quickest way to get an answer in a forum is to attract attention with more or less teasing comments.

The human psyche is far too complicated for me to understand - I guess even for god. But I know that people love to react to conflict. My own ironic statement isn’t excluded from this rule.

So you can hate my personality if you like, but it is a fact that I got an answer.
