Ai seeing through folliage and tree cover

Recommended Posts

A lot of OFP's folliage can be seen through by the AI even though a unit taking cover behind it is not visible at all.

As an example, the reeds folliage (as on Everon coords EI50) is useless against the AI. You can hide in the thick of it and you will be spotted by the AI as if you were in the open.

Similarly, the newer folliage brought to the game with Resistance seems to provide no cover at all.

In addition, trees that are knocked down do not provide cover even though anyone taking cover behind it is not visible from the other side.

These are important realism and game factors and should be corrected in OFP2.

I'm not an expert but wouldn't it be possible to designate certain areas as LOS(Line of Sight) blocking areas? This could perhaps circumvent the need to make every bush a solid object?

Say use a polygon type of function to pinpoint where the LOS reduction occurs?

I was thinking about this solution as an alternative to making every bush solid since I'm afraid it could break most PC:s (as in beeing too heavy).

How about this?

Fact of the matter is that there are plenty of bushes in OFP CWC that block detection very well. They're those low-medium height green/brown/yellow shrubs that look somewhat like a porous sponge.

Yeah it's weird. You sure it couldn't be some sort of compromise then? I thought maybe it was some sort of performance trade off?

But I'm sure they will check these parts. After having done that VBS I am confident that they will use most of it for OFP2 (minus the ultra realistic stuff perhaps).
