Hard to answer this one...

What addon are you trying to install would help (could be mine, lol)

I don't want to confuse you with suggestions, but maybe consider some addons with self-installer, if you happen to want something specific, i'm sorry.

But some addons come in both versions

Otherwise if you could tell us the pathnames to your Operation Flashpoint directory and where the addon you download is ,would help

And of course ...the name of the addon

edit: this enforces the idea of the new format coming with a BIS installer

Two things:

1. Regardless of the access privileges granted by the system administrator, you cannot replace read-only files. You need to remove the read-only attribute from the file to be replaced first.

2. You cannot replace files that are open and in use. When you load OFP, it opens some critical files and keeps them open to keep you from cheating by replacing or removing the files. You can therefore not Alt-Tab to the Windows Desktop and overwrite an addon or mission file without exiting the game first.

every file on Windows or DOS system has some attributes. 4 of them to be precise. and one of them is "read only".

start your Explorer(not internet explo, but the file one) and right click on a random file. goto properties, and at the bottom, there are 3 boxes. if there is a box that says "read only" and has a check, then the file is recognized as read only file. i.e you can only read it.

2)when a program starts, it loads several crucial file, and tampering with it while that program is running will give you error.

It's really quite simple -- bring up the Properties dialog for the file, and make sure the Readonly attribute isn't checked, i.e. the checkbox isn't marked.

And don't try to replace the file while OFP is running, that won't work.

Finally (and this just occurred to me), don't try to put the file onto the OFP CD, if that is what you are trying to do. The file needs to go into the Addon directory on your hard drive where you installed OFP to.

Yes, it finally dawned on me that you might be trying to put the file into the Addons folder on the CD. That would explain why you didn't have write access even though the file doesn't already exist in the destination folder.

Anyway, I'm glad you got it straightened out! Cheers!
