johnnylump 0 Posted April 5, 2003 I am having trouble getting some AI planes to attack infantry; even various scripting tricks don't seem to work. Because the planes' AI seems to attack armored/car targets that it picks up on radar, I was wondering if it would be possible to make an addon that would essentially fool the AI into attacking infantry positions. Would it be possible to make an invisible, or so-small-it-can't be-seen (like a bootprint or tiny rock) armored or car addon that shows up on radar? It would have a lot of hit points and no weapons but still look really attractive to plane (and helo) AI. It would be assigned to a side ... tho I don't know how you would handle the issue of a crew. The extra hit points would mean it would survive more than one bomb. I envision putting such an addon in the middle of a hardened infantry position, summoning an airstrike, and watching the planes go to work. It could be moved around with SETPOS commands so the planes would only hit it when the mission allows for it. I wouldn't really know how to make something like this ... curious if any of the pros have any thoughts if it's possible.
mrukas 0 Posted April 5, 2003 could depend on what kinda plane your sending to airstrike??. DKM broncos usually attack infantry with 250-500 lbs bombs or ffars, but thats because they have time to. other planes have such fast speed in attack run that they wouldnt be able to hit target while trying.. off course its easier when armor is with you, like your attacking a position with a mechanised div., soldiers are close to tanks wich are "attractiv to planes(mostly cause the radar can se them) with bombs on em. helo is no prob, hinds are usually a pain in the ass... infantry is just as attractive to em. By the way, our mod is makeing some nice bombs with planes to deliver em. well be tryng to fix so that planes do air-strikes on infantry

johnnylump 0 Posted April 6, 2003 I guess my point is that airstrikes are called in on infantry strongpoints ... natural terrain features, for example, that an infantry group, light mortar or something similar may be using. This includes airstrikes from fast-movers like F-15Es (see accounts of the battle of Takur Ghar during Operation Anaconda) dropping 500-bound bombs on infantry positions, or cluster bombs dropped on large formations. The fast-movers' AI doesn't really use guns much against infantry, either. I'm suggesting that an near-invisible armored target could do the trick, to fool the AI into strafing, or bombing, a position it normally wouldn't.

johnnylump 0 Posted April 6, 2003 That may work -- but I'm not sure it would show up as an "enemy" target without anybody in it. Otherwise one would have to have a crew member who was completely obscured from the outside, I guess. Not the most elegant solution, I know ... but I'm not sure what else might work. mr burns 133 Posted April 6, 2003 hi all....i think you should try out Invisible Targets Addon made by German AEF-Campaign (Mod). I don´t know if there´s english documentation about how it works...but it should be quite simple. MfG Mr Burns (ofp-center.com)
