Are you kidding??

This game kicks ass!

I have been playing in the first demo mission where you have to kill the NVA officer and find any documents in the village.

Talk about excellent graphics and immersion.  Not to mention realism.

I got to the riverbank.  How well done was that??   Beautiful graphics.

If you are bold enough to wade into the stream, it feels so real.  Like you imagine that there is an enemy waiting on the opposite end was just ready to pop you.

I was crawling through the grass along the river bank.  Being very cautious.  Making sure never to expose myself.  Whenever I got even an inkling of a feeling that there might be an enemy nearby on the opposite riverbank I would pull out my sniper rifle and look through the score thoroughly scanning through the foliage and behind any rocks on the waters edge.

If I would spot something even remotely that looks like a human body I would make sure I was well conceiled, and fire a shot through the plants and shrubbery.

Normally when moving through the dense foliage, it's hard to see very far, so I held an AK that I picked up off an enemy I killed.  An AK is good for that cause it fires in full auto and packes a punch at close range.  Great incase you are ambushed.

I remember approaching some rocks, I saw a gaurd post just a little down the river.  I pulled out my Sniper and just made out the gaurd's head through some trees.  Bam, he went down.  But as soon as I fired I heard enemies yelling along the opposite bank, they spotted me and my man who was with me.

I immediately switch to my AK.  I don't see them exacty since they were a bit away, but they were shooting at us and bullets were whizzing right past us, and I could see their muzzle flashes, so I fired back in their directions at their muzzle flashes.  I managed to take out 2 of them as they were attacking.  My man managed to take out a few himself.

After that, it all seemed calm.  We advanced til we got in better range of that gaurd station I sniped.

I gave my man my snipe and told him to stay a bit back to cover me as I crawled forward to check out what I had earlier killed.

As I got close I figured the area was clear and decided to stand up(kindof squatting) in the open with no cover.  Bad move.   There were like 6 enemies nearby who spotted me.  They started screaming and started rushing at us.  I hit the dirt and we started firing on them as they approached.  The most awesome part about that was that the enemy vietnamese were running towards us spashing through the water as they were crossing the river running up the bank were we were. I think we managed to take out a total of like 2.  But there were to many of them and they killed us both.

The graphics in this game are excellent, very crisp and makes for a very immersive experience.

It's a nice game with a good balance between realism and a bit arcade. It's not a game for clan matches but it's good fun for a few co-op's.

I dont think that the gfx's are that good but they have managed to create a good atmosphere.

bah, maybe its just me. i was hoping for something original. yeah the graphics are pretty good, realism is OK, not perfect but OK.

it just reminded me too much of the dirty dozen. and the enemy can sometimes see through the grass. then again there were times they were right in front of me and didnt see me.

Yeah, see that's the thing.

The game is very realistic.  Sometimes they will see you, sometimes they wont.

It depends on how well hidden you are, how much noise you are making  etc ...

As for something "original".  Well you mean as "original" as the Vietnam war??

The game is supposed to depict the war.  What else do you want?    I think it does a very good job of doing that realistically.

I have to agree with the Mad Dentist guy. I am running an MSI GF3ti200 and havent had a single problem with DX9. Did you iinstall one of the pre-release betas and then not upgrade it? That could be part of the problem!!

I guess so. But in the case where they saw me I was crawling, but hidden. When they didn't see me I was out in the open but staying still.

I don't know about you, but I can't aim at just a noise.

I meant an original game. This is just the dirty dozen vietnam style. Nothing wrong with that, but it wasn't what I expected.

"I don't know about you, but I can't aim at just a noise."

Yeah, that's the thing about the Vietnam war, and jungle combat in general.

Half the time you don't even see the enemy. In the Vietnam war, most soldiers would engage the enemy not even seeing them.

The best they did was return fire on their muzzle flashes or in the general direction that the enemy fire is coming from.

That's the height of realism.

In the vietnam war, when soldiers were ambushed, they would spray fire into the bushes and spots where they thought the vietnamese enemies were hidden, or where they spotted movement. Sometimes returning fire only on a machinegun that was setup with a tripwire to make it shoot, or they would wind up killing some animal.

Most soldiers are therfore trained to fire on noises, and the "sounds" of the enemy since visual detection is less common.

Yes, I know, I do it too. But the odds of repeatedly hitting something you just heard are very low. I know they knew where I was because they were aiming, not spraying.

Yeah, but the idea was even if you don't necessarily hit all the enemies, you put them under pressure and fire enough heat at them.  They could get disorganized, retreat, scatter, etc ..

And me, I do hit alot of enemies this way in Line of Sight.  Sometimes I get nailed, but that's the way it would work in real life too.

Also, it's important to remember the right times to be laying prone stealthily picking off enemies that you see, and be standing up, moving, maneuvering, and taking out enemies as fast as you can.

In the game, sometimes when we come under heavy fire, I stand up and run up to some boulders and return fire from there using the large rocks as cover.  I can see the enemy much better, and can put them down faster before they advance all over us.  And I can easily lob grenades at them from my position.(It really feels like you are in some heavy jungle combat)

I did this when I was in visual range of the camp.  I was right up next to a large rock, and we managed to take out all the advancing enemies.  Thanks alot to me lobbing many grenades in their direction.  Enemies started to come at us from the opposite river bank.  That was tough because they were alot farther away.  We put them down with our rifles.

I stood there waiting, and looked farther down the river toward the village about 50 yards down.  The river bent left along a beach along the front of the village facing the water.

I noticed some more enemy vietcong moving along the beach among some villagers.  I pulled out my M21 sniper rifle and picked one off.  The rest started rushing into the water towards us,(the water isn't that deep, only about a few feet deep, about waist level)  As they got closer to us on the waters edge I shot at them.

It's neat when you hit them, and they immediately fall into the water.
