trouble importing surface mask image

anyone know how to get textures to work with surface mask for locating textures in the right place  as they do in dayz and other arma's

The textures are merged and handled differently.
If you have 2 textures you must have 2 black and white masks (white is the colour where the texture is applied)

Yes, filter out each color to a grayscaled 16bit image. 
Make sure it's grayscaled and not RGB. And Export one for each color you have made white, with everything else black (Only the color you want as surface mask should be white, everthing that is not this color should be black)
