Dadster 0 Posted February 11, 2003 Some people have been giving the following advise and it's a great idea. Go into Control Panel - > System -> Advanced -> Startup and Recover and turn off the automatic restart when a Blue Screen occurrs I was having a problem in OFP when my system would crash and automatically reboot. Â I then followed this suggestion and the blue screen told me the STOP error I was having was the result of an issue with Ntfs.sys. Â With that information the Microsoft tech was able to tell me it was not a device driver but a system driver issue and that the problem was most likely with my hard drive. Â I booted from the CD-ROM, ran chkdsk /r and found and fixed one or more disk drive errors. Â This was most likely causing the issue and probably had nothing to do with OFP other than the fact that it was in a "bad" location on my drive. Â So if you are having issues you might want to heed this advise. Â Worked for me. Â Dadster P.S. Â I've never used Win 2000 but if it has the same option this advise would apply there as well. Mugg 0 Posted February 11, 2003 sounds good, I've been having a very similar problem and it just started lately. I just reverted my video card drivers back to older detanators (28.9 or something like that) and reverted my sound card drivers back to microsoft ones. So far no problem but I'm getting scratchy sounds, whicH i've seen as a problem around here. Anyway, if I start getting more problems like the BSOD, I'll take your advice. Mister Frag 0 Posted February 12, 2003 The automatic restart is one of the dumbest defaults that Microsoft has ever come up with. I think they were embarassed by the idea of end-users seeing the dreaded BSOD, but just rebooting the system, losing all unsaved work, and not giving the user much help in tracking down the cause can't be any better for their image.
