miles teg 1 Posted February 4, 2003 The Napoleonic Wars mod site is at: Â http://www.freewebz.com/napoleonic/index.htm By the way, you all please quit arguing about unit size. Â The issue is moot.. you're not gonna get these huge units on the screen unless you got a super fast computer system. Â Plus you all are putting the cart before the horse. Â First figure out how to get units to move and fire in formations. Â To get units to stay still and fire from a standing position use this script: Â Â this setunitpos "up"; They won't go prone, but they won't run either. Â There should be some script that basically gives them the same command as if you were the squad leader and ordered them to "Stand Up" where they don't go prone at all. Â After that's figured out you'd have to work on making a bayonet animation and a large amount of bayonet "ammo" which a unit only switches to when it is within 3 or 4 ft of a target. It also would have to have a kill/wound range of just a foot from the barrel of the weapon. Â When you press the fire button after selecting the "bayonet" it should do a custom animation showing the rifle thrust forward. Â However realistically I don't think it's going to work as units rarely attack each other at close quarters...I think it would look really wierd. Â So big close quarters hand to hand battles I don't think are going to happen unless BIS added such features to the game engine where the AI really went for each other's throats in close quarter combat scenarios. What's left is just having lines of guys shooting at each other. Â Â But I may be wrong. Â I think that the concepts are worth testing out with just the regular OFP soldiers. Â But don't do like the Napoleanic War mod did and design all these units before even testing out basic infantry tactics of this period using regular BIS soldiers first (and some weapon addons from this period). Â I think it would be better to first help out the Napoleonic Wars Mod team first and perhaps test the concepts with their units to see if they work. Â If you can get battles to look reasonably realistic, and to be reasonably fun (for more then just military history buffs) then I think a civil war mod should definitely be made! But just plan the mod out and take it one step at a time is my opinion so that way you don't waste a bunch of time with models and stuff only to discover that you can't make realistic looking civil war battles. Â Â I hope that makes some sense. Â Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>
Tales_From_Topographic_Oceans 0 Posted February 4, 2003 I went to the Napoleon site. There does not appear to be much to download yet. Does anyone know how it works or has anyone tested it? It does not appear to available yet. Are they beta testing?

More then likely if you contact them and tell them you need help in making an American Civil War mod, they'll probably help you out, or maybe let you beta some of their units so that both mod teams can help each other out since much of the tactics used by Armies of each period are similar.  (Yes I know there are differences but I'm speaking about such things as volley fire tactics and lining up ranks to face off and charge into each other across an open field). joshnolan225 0 Posted February 5, 2003 BONUS!!!!! COC has released and enemy spawn script that allows enemies to respawn to a certain number of times after they have been killed!!!! a solution to the unit size prob. Ive tried it out and there is no extra lag, only prolonged battles so who wants to join now?

I looked on the CoC site and at ofpeditingcenter site and do not see it there unless I missed it. It would help out alot of mission makers if you can please post the URL to that script. Tales_From_Topographic_Oceans 0 Posted February 21, 2003 The moderator will be pissed at me for this but here goes..... The point is that this game looks like it was/is made with the Unreal Tournament engine which sucks donkey dick for real first-person shooters. Look at screen shots. I have done some editing with Unreal and Tournament, and it's too arcade. I still think that OPF has the best physics and graphics for combat games. I will wait for an ADDON or will just play the Napoleon wars here is a first-person game in all it's glory: http://www.anivision.com/gng/

billybob12 0 Posted April 17, 2003 I'd like to at least get a confederate flag texture for the flagpoles. Don't necessarily have to have confederate units, I just want that flag...makes for fun neo-rebel missions! e.g., lets put that hunter unit to use in the editor
