Milkman 1 Posted January 25, 2003 Well usually I would find this mission fairly easy, but now that I started playing the campaign again, this mission has been really nagging me. Two things: 1- When I approach the town, a BMP shows up right in the middle of town and I cant rescue the hostages without blowing up the bmp. 2- I never got this before, but now when I approach the town, I get an objective failed alert saying I was detected and now all the hostages were dead. Well those two things have halted my progress in the campaign but now I am also curious what these odd "cheats" that appear in the campaign missions are. (You have to unPBO the resistance campaign to see them) On Hostages, I found a trigger called (cheat2), it had no axis, but it said in the on activation field: Setdammage 1 foreach units in (1list), or something similar... I think it kills all the East guys on the map, although I have no idea how to activate it. There are other triggers labled CHEAT in various other missions but their purpose is less obvious. Can these "cheats" be activated somehow? I would like to know, but just for the fun of knowing Oh heres what I found in the Init.sqs in the 08hostages.noe folder: ? Thomm 0 Posted January 27, 2003 I had the same problem! If I remember correctly I killed all the foot soldiers in a few seconds (with a Bizon) but left the BMP alone. If it takes too long to kill the guards, or you are detected too early, they will shoot the hostages, so be quick! As far as I remember the hostages could escape without being shot by the BMP, but I could not avoid a "failed" mark at that first objective. I destroyed the BMP as soon as the hostages had left and carried on with the mission ... Hope that helps, Thomm Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Hidden 0 Posted February 27, 2003 Damn I wrote a long subject on the Hostages mission on the first page, searched for it but didn't find any, but here it was.. I have the very same problem, was thinking the BMP would automatically open fire on me, why doesn't it do that? I use to sneak in behind the church btw. And I am sure this didn't happen before, so I guess it is a patch issue, something about the BMP moving in because of scripting errors or something? Anyway, back to try again, thanks for the info. Ruskiesrule 0 Posted March 10, 2003 its next to the sea isn't it? that town, i cant remember the actualy directions. I just remember going along the side of the hill and then moving up (With the sea behind me) i then worked my way around the town and killed the gaurds pritty fast, then you walk into the compound holding the hostages and i killed the bmp from there i think. Hidden 0 Posted March 12, 2003 -- SPOILER, HOSTAGES MISSION -- I play in vet mode with crosshair off, so just adjust if it don't work that way for you. Equip yourself with an RPG and at least 2 rounds, make sure your two man team have RPG's also, as you will be needing it later. As soon as the mission starts, all hold fire and run down on the West side (near the ocean), aim for the building at the nearest corner and run back up there, then walk and aim, and kill the 2 guards on the front. Then immediately run for the church and follow the North side of it, and you will spot 2 more guards patrolling that area. They will most likely be walking your direction and spot you as soon as you get there, so kill them as fast as possible. Run in to the hostages and kill the last guard. Hostages are now freed and will run for the woods. Tell your team to hold fire and direct them towards the woods up North to wait for you. Wait for the BMP by the road, get as clear view as possible. The BMP will soon arrive at full speed, but will slow down a bit before reaching the camp, which gives you enough time to aim and fire a round at it. Run to the woods up North, all hold fire (including the team enforcement) form column and continue the mission up North.
