Gaswell 1 Posted November 20, 2001 I'm just learning how to use the DESTROY waypoint properly (don't laugh) and I've noticed a problem: Once a group gets to a DESTROY waypoint, they'll attack EVERYTHING present near the waypoint, including not only friendlies, but also themselves(!). Try this; make a two-man group (AI as leader, #2 as player), give it a DESTROY waypoint some distance away, and add a CYCLE waypoint next to the DESTROY waypoint. Also add a friendly soldier near the waypoints. The AI leader will order a move to the DESTROY waypoint, then call an attack on the poor friendly soldier present nearby, and finally complete the day by either attacking you, or ordering you to attack him. Pretty disturbing. My question is: Is there any way I can use a DESTROY waypoint and NOT risk attacking friendlies? For example, I don't want my tanks attacking their own recon. (Yep, that's me in the BRDM, scouting ahead of my tanker buddies). The DESTROY waypoint has a lot of nice properties, but I don't want my own guys fighting themselves... Intruder 0 Posted November 20, 2001 Place the destroy WP directly on top of the unit you want to destroy, after its dead they should calm down.
Gaswell 1 Posted November 20, 2001 Yes, I've used DESTROY that way too if I want to hit specific units. But let's say that I want a helo to attack all enemy units that dare to move near points A, B, or C. Unless I'm totally mistaken, I can do that with a simple DESTROY-DESTROY-DESTROY-MOVE-CYCLE loop (MOVE to make the helo return to a safe position when A, B, and C are clear). If the helo only attacked enemies, then I'd be a happy camper. I'm NOT a happy camper when I'm the first recon unit to come near point C, only to discover that there's an incoming Apache trying to score a friendly kill. Frizbee 0 Posted November 22, 2001 Instead of looping the Destroy waypoint.. just use a Search and Destroy waypoint. Once the area is clear of enemy they should fly off.. move on to the next waypoint. They do however have some inaccuracies if they are trying to target infantry... (Ie. DO NOT GO NEAR ENEMY INFANTRY THAT THEY ARE TARGETING)
Gaswell 1 Posted November 22, 2001 Yes, but SEARCH AND DESTROY makes the group move to the waypoint even if there aren't any enemies there. The thing about the DESTROY waypoint is that it is skipped if there's nothing to attack nearby. It may be "cheating", but in in this case that's exactly what I want. I can get the same result by using some triggers and stuff, but I'm still puzzled that the DESTROY waypoint not only causes fratricide but also suicide. If there's nothing else to destroy, destroy yourself?

Frizbee 0 Posted November 23, 2001 Have you tried using that waypoint without the loop... I'm thinking that maybe the loop command is causing them to go frantic searching for SOMETHING to destroy... even if it is friendly or themselves.
