killagee 0 Posted February 4, 2003 In East Timor i met a guy from the NZ Army who was involved in the selection process for thee LAV's for the NZDF. He was positive that the LAV's were the best available for the dollars we had to play with (as always in NZ it was bugger all). With Warrior's and Bradely's far in the too expensive basket, His personal favorite was the spanish tracked AIFV, called ASCOT or something, but we couldnt afford it. His next choice was the Pihranha IV. An armour driver told me that NZ's current M-113's required 1 hour servicing for every 5km traveled. This reduces to 1hour per 2km after extended off road use. The Lav's are Air transportable in our C-130's, which I understand the M-113's are not. In fact most people I know in the army seem excited anout the LAV's arriving. But anyway, I have found the safest form of transport in OFP to be the G-8 MOD's M-113 VCC1. Will take 2 cloase range RPG hits before exploding, except the gunner is exposed. Wick_105 0 Posted February 6, 2003 ok its all about getting the troops to the fight...It doesnt matter how it moves or who makes it. I've been transported in both m113 and lav-III's I like the lav-III better but thats just me. it doesnt matter who makes the damn thing if the driver is crosseyed and retarded
