scousejedi 0 Posted January 6, 2003 Scorpio in a recent post said that vertexes were not really a problem unless they were moving. </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">And vertices are can be more important then polygons... especialy on wheels and parts wich are in game transformed (rotated etc)... <span id='postcolor'> I am currently near completion of LOD 0 for my Pz V Panther G and I should finish it <2000 faces. Now the wheels are currently 10 sided cylinders single z. There are 1 drive wheel, 1 return at the back and eight other large in 2 layers. Atm my wheels come in as 280 faces but look a little flat. As they are the most undetailed part of the model I was going to define them a lot more but this start adding lots of vertexes that move. So would having 600 ish moving vertexes be a problem? scousejedi 0 Posted January 6, 2003 Scorpio : In my defence I did quote you. So how many wheel vertexes is a problem then Scorpio I have about 2000 free faces to play with in LOD 0, obviously I wont use them all but how many do I use?
Guest BratZ Posted January 7, 2003 Im no pro modeler but heres what I think. I asked a similiar question that if too many vertixes was good and was basically told its the faces that get drawn and those are what counts And from what I have seen from other recent tanks is this....go to town,do it nice if you want, because I also think this... The wheels are outside of your tank...you doing a face count right now (in O2 says faces) doesnt really count yet as when you are done, you can really only see either inside view or outside only at a time Mostly during the game ,people will only see mostly the outside of your tank,so mainly the outside face will count for visual, and if your view geometry is right, you mostly will draw one side or the other at a time, and a tank ALWAYS generates wheel smoke (that you cant stop, right?) But the wheel smoke will also cut down on drawing all the wheels moving all the time But counting the fact that the tanks I have seen lately have nice tracks, our computers are faster now,and we have a more demand for nice models,I would make it nice as you planned Of course you will cut some faces from your later LODS
scousejedi 0 Posted January 8, 2003 Thats what I thought, I thought my 2 most detailed LODs were finidhed but a close examination of the demoT72 reveals a dark secret inside. I have to now include interior visible when hatches are open. Poo. Thanks
Guest BratZ Posted January 9, 2003 I was checking out Warbirds 3 .And it does have very nice planes in it.I think we need to raise the standards on our models. My Helldiver is just about done, but I think because I can't have a tailgunner.I am going to just do some real nice fighter planes next. Warbirds3 does have nice units, but its funny because if your plane gets shot up,you get to have a parachute ride down, but your game is done there! LOL In OFP thats where most of the action starts!
