Try the A3 bootcamp and some of the showcase/training missions. It'll give you a good grasp of basic vanilla ArmA controls. Otherwise; Find a bunch of people to play with, Join a public MP server and get ready to free up 50 to 100GB (depending on the dedication) of diskspace for mods.
