hit_sqd_roguewarrior 10 Posted September 21, 2017 I'm pretty sure they are but I know someone saying they edited the script therefore they own it and no other server can use it what does BIA say ?
Belbo 462 Posted September 21, 2017 That always depends on the licence a script is published with or the copyright the original material has been published under. The scripts written by BI programmers are property of BI (or rather the author's property with an exclusive exploitation right granted to BI). The scripts written by the community are property of the authors (writing a novel in Word doesn't grant Microsoft the copyright to your novel after all). In Germany for example you can't publish edited material without explicit consent from the original author. So editing a script without permission from the author can never grant you rights to this script. If you modify material that is published under a specific licence it may be that you have to publish it under the same licence again if you choose to do so. There are very few licences that grant an editor complete freedom in regards of the distribution of the modified material. Mind you: Licences and copyrights are (mostly) all about distribution of material - if I write my own ace³ with blackjack and hookers and chose to use it on my private server only, without sharing it publicly, there's nothing anyone can do about it. For reference: https://www.bistudio.com/community/licenses https://www.gnu.org/licenses/licenses.html https://creativecommons.org/share-your-work/ https://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/urhg/__23.html So in short: If he wrote the script on his own, it's his and you can twist and turn - if he says so, you can't use it. But if he didn't write it on his own and just edited the script, you can appeal to the original author - which won't make your perpetrator give you the modified script anyway.
