Mister Frag 0 Posted December 9, 2001 I'm sure most of you have heard that @HOME is going the way of the Dodo bird, and that AT&T (who was already the majority shareholder) has bought their assets, and is converting @HOME users to their own network, AT&T Broadband Internet: <a href="http://news.cnet.com/news/0-1004-200-8107804.htm Anyway," target="_blank">http://news.cnet.com/news/0-1004-200-8107804.htm Anyway,</a> one of the guys I regularly play with was on @HOME cable, and the last time we played a private MP game with several people (Thursday night), his ping times had gone from the 50s and 60s to the 190s and above. Not only that, the problems that he was having carried over to the rest of the players and my system, which acted as the server. The intermittent problems with his connection caused the non-dedicated server to crash several times, something we hadn't experienced much in the past. We usually play for three or four hours, and it is rare that we have any problems (crashes or disconnects), but that all changed with the @HOME network changes. I didn't realize that an unstable client could deal such a blow to the server. I don't know how the dedicated server would respond, but the non-dedicated one just took a dive. They are nothing in this deal... they only USE @Home as their service to their customers. Everyone just get DSL or HighSpeed Wireless from REAL ISPs (not corporate giants)! The Cable companies have showed you how much they really care about you... now it's time to show them how much you care about them... leave their service and let them all go belly up. BigQEd 0 Posted December 11, 2001 Mister Frog... not usually. Most ISP's do not use AT&T or Cable networks. (actually most ISP's stay as far away from them as possible due to their sturation issues). Matter of fact many ISP's utilize direct NAP connections. Then some use Qwest, UUnet, Broadwing and networks like that. Malboeuf... man you really need to stop posting on things you have no clue about. You are starting to really rake on my nerves. Rogers is nothing to @Home! BigQEd 0 Posted December 12, 2001 Mister Frag... not true in most cases. For example... FIRST Net (http://www.1st.net) is fully redundant and no one company going out of business will effect us. We have network connections to several Backbones and have fully redundant fiber connections for Telco needs. We are also a CLEC (as many ISPs are these days)... which means in essence we are also a phone company but with us as with many ISP/CLECs we only deal with larger circuits such as DSL, DS1, DS3, OC3 and not residential POTS circuits. Malboeuf... you are not worth my time. AT&T is the largest shareholder in @HOME. That is a fact. Rogers would be a very minor shareholder. You are so messed up on your facts... 1) Excite@Home is Bankrupt 2) AT&T is the largest shareholder of @HOME 3) Rogers doesn't even register as a larger shareholder of @HOME 4) Rogers may be something in the small canadian economy but in the US and/or World economy they are but the size of fly s**t and have little economic power. Go look them up on the financial markets if you do not believe me. 5) Our server has the largest confirmed connection running OFP. (Redundant OC3) 6) Today when looked up on ASE our server was the TOP server. Number 1... the most with the fastest ping. The ONLY time our server lags is when I put LARGE CUSTOME COOP missions on. Never lags with CTF or DM... any server out there would lag with my custom missions (until BIS resolves some issues) I suggest you stop this bashing of our server...
