ideas for userfriendly public MP

Hi I love this game...for SP and organized MP.

I have just spent 60 minutes trying to connect to a public server. Although I manage to connect to server and also other players. But when someone is setting up a server and using a user made MAP. For this case we were supposed to play COOP!

These are the problems that often occurs!!!

If the User mission isnt clear enough in the briefing, no one (we were 4 people) knows what to do! All is running a round in confussion.  (In this case a were suppose to get some weapons from a crate after that a chooper were supposed to pick us up). The chooper seems to be triggered when all players HAD found the crate.

If we finally manage to get to the action (we never did)

then the battle area is to big for a deasent Internetplay.

Then we have this with the RESPAWN thing. If the user mission is allow respawning then the respawing point is most like to far away from the battle.

I dont want to take away the greatness of OFP (huge areas, realism etc.) That works fine in SP and when players get organized in MP (lan party, at work (after hours etc)).

But to improve public gameplay (G-spy, allseeye). I think that BIS and CM must reconsider...

Things that should improve public game play?

* Make some smaller MP specific maps (ie smaller islands). But dont take away the present islands, as I said these works fine when people gets orgainzed.

* Respwawn. Make the respawning possibilities possibly to set up/chose in the game lobby here you could chose how to respawn/numbers of respawn.

* This with user made addons!!!! (Im not into his with all kinds of diffrent user made addons). If a map is using some kind of user made addon. Can't that be announced (at the same screen were the roles are chosen), often you get some kind of fault message when the mission is loaded (after that you're kicked out)! If you prior to that have been waiting 10 minitues or so! then you're pissed of!!!!!

* And also JIP (but I wont talk about that has been talked about so many times)

I really like this game in SP or organized MP mode. But often there is not time to get organized. If my suggestions was implemented in OFP. The MP gameplay over internet should increase. Moore people would most likely buy/support and love the game!

Take the MOH demo (has been out 1 day) or GH for instance. Take a look in G-SPY and see the huge ammounts of players they have compared to OFP!!!

And by the way! The 60 minutes I talked about in the begining, not A single minute was pure gameplay (i.e. fighting an enemy).

Sounds to me like you need to b*tch at the mission editor.....not the designers. It not real difficult to make a good mission with the tools BIS and CM have given us. Maybe you need to visit some editing sites and make your own missions.

I am not interested in making missions!!! Only play them! What I came across the other night was that some "bstrd" had set up a public server whit a crap mission!

And of course when it was as I described, this is no good for the MP part in OFP. Allot of players tried to join this server but we wasnt able to start the actual gameplay. This kind of stuf is no good for the "OFP repetation" ie OFP is not a good MP game! (This is the repetation among many online gamers (HL/CS/GH, many of those will not bother to try to play OFP online).

But as I say earlier I love MP in OFP when not playing on a public server!!!!

And of course, when it as I described, this is no good for the roumour (about the lousy MP part in OFP). Allot of players tried to join this server but we wasnt able to start the actual gameplay. This kind of stuf is no good for the "OFP repetation" ie OFP is not a good MP game! (This is the reputation among many online gamers (HL/CS/GH, many of those will not bother to try to play OFP online).

But as I say earlier I love MP in OFP when not playing on a public server!!!!

Has absolutly nothing to do with BIS or CM get your facts right before you whine......

It is the fault of the stupid ass host and/or the map maker... and theres's not a d*amn thing you can do about it.... my sugestion to you is find a few servers that you can get a decent game in...... most public servers (ones thrown up in the GS lobby) are run by and filled with morons.... dont go lookin for any serious gameplay on them  its basically hit and miss when you float around from server to server.

Operation Flashpoint has a great potential for MP games, but unfortunately it's pretty bad at it. The MP interface is very confusing (not for a LAN game, I mean when you connect to a dedicated server)... and so far I haven't been able to found a guide that explains how it works from the client's side. The problems is that the game relies too much in the ability of the players to organize themselves... and such a thing is impossible in many many servers.

That's really bad, and I hope that it will be changed soon.

Well Gandalf,

I don't really get your problem with OFP and BIs here. All I get out of your post is that you don't like (some) user-made MP-missions, but nobody really forces you to play them. (except if an admin is logged on the server, but you have to admit that he chooses the map he wants to play, since he paid for the maschine/connection...) There are some fine official missions delivered with OFP and Upgrades.

About the custom addons, that's just another issue for the mission designer and maybe the admin, to state clearly in the mission description and the motd statement (-> check the DS description), that it uses custom addons. (some server even have names, which show they use addons...)

The only problem that bothered me was the voting for missions, but that would be solved in 1.35, as stated by BIs some days ago.
